That's actually a really good idea!!!! I will get on that now..
This is slowly eating away my soul.
Guys would it be a bad idea to like ... write a poem or w/e for the Dean of Admissions? And like I won't make any attempt to hide the fact that I'm trying to suck up... if anything I'll make it obvious that I'm acknowledging it.

Your stats are great, too bad for your GPA though. I'd say that you have an excellent shot at W&M, especially if applying ED1

Thanks man! I appreciate these responses. Does anyone think I have a poor chance? I know I shouldn't put all my eggs in one basket and that there is a college for everyone, but I really am relying on this school. I'll be applying to plenty of other colleges as well, but this is what I almost NEED to go to.
Having said that, would it be a bad idea to write and send them a poem?

I don't think I'd send a poem. You've applied ED and done the interview. Both are strong indications of your feelings about W & M. Like others, I think you will be accepted, but I'm going to throw out the possibility that they will defer you to be sure you do rebound from the problems junior year. The mid-year grade report won't be there in time for the ED review (I don't believe, anyway). Once they have that I'd feel pretty good about an acceptance, but don't throw yourself under a bus if you are deferred. You've heard what they say about waiting to do RD if you know you can substantially improve your app, right? In your case, the message to W&M was that you really want to go there, which was made clear through ED, so that was a good idea for you. Still, from an outside perspective, I think seeing the senior first semester will be something they consider important before making an offer, and you're doing well which is what they will likely be looking for.
Of course, I could be wrong. If you were my child, that would be my expectation though.

@89wahoo Thanks so much for that long and insightful answer. Much appreciated. I'll just keep working at my senior year grades. No poem.

Hey guys I got my report card back today. Instead of 5 A+, 1 A-, and B ,
I got 3 A+, 2 A, 1 A-, and B.
2 of the A+ are creative writing and Academic government. The other one is AP computer science.
Would this change any assessment of chances? I'm really concerned that my junior year grades will kill all my chances.

I have been reading your thread... And I think you need to relax. There is more than one school that is the right fit for everyone. Your junior year was definitely not a good thing - and remember schools unweight your average (as every school does not have the same "weighting system")- so your GPA will not be 3.99, but if your AP scores are 5's that would offset the lower grades. Sending a poem would seem unnecessary (do you think it would sway their decision?). I would just take a breath. Let your application stand on it's own merit. (I am also unsure as to why you want admissions to see you as quirky??)

My AP scores aren't good enough to show and offset my grades unfortunately.
And yea my unweighted GPA is fairly abysmal, expecially considering around around top 28% as opposed to top 10%. I'm hoping they'll just look at my senior year improvement as of yet. My 11th grade gpa is an anomaly in context with the rest of my years.
Yea I'm pretty stressed about this. I know there are lots of other colleges that could be the right fit for me, but I really want to go to this school. I know I'll have to cope and find another college if I'm not given acceptance, but I'd really like to maximize my chances you know?

How about SAT II subject tests? Those would also show that you have a deeper knowledge and understanding of subjects which may not be reflected by your grades.

I'm taking SAT Math II in December 1st. By then it's too late.
On another thread I noticed someone say that I should contact W&M debate coach? Would that help? Because to my understanding, a lot of the sports coaches sometimes mention to the admissions committee that they want a particular athlete.
I have quite a few awards in debate and speech. Some of which are national.

The coaches usually contact the athletes(recruit) and that is done way before ED - admissions has already vetted those applicants. I would think it is too late for the debate coach to have an impact as they have been reading applications for a couple of weeks. I think it would seem like a last minute thought as opposed to having a passionate interest in debate team while at W&M.

Oh well. I guess I just have to wait. But given my other threads and what not, would you say my chances for Early Decision is slim, even with the empirically approximate 48 percent acceptance rate?
