| A strong case for admission? you decide (NW ED, Chicago EA)
Northwestern ED, Univ of Chicago EA for entrance in fall 06
my stats as a junior:
33 ACT (should i attempt to raise it?)
5s on 4 APs thus far, 6 more by the end of senior year
4.0, 3.3, 4.0 UW GPA thus far
for when i got a low grade in chemistry, i took the SATII to prove my competence and got an 800. (i really do hate math and science)
most demanding courseload available
rank top 15% (the 3.3 really hurt but i have a legitimate explanation for it)
-Amnesty International chapter (founder)...you have no idea how painstaking it was to create this club. in the process, i also had to give up my political partisanship
-scholarship foundation for kids in southeast asia who wish to attend private schools. (it's not as cheesy as it sounds, really). at first, my effort was directed towards my cousin who so badly wanted to attend private school, since the public school system in my native country is terrible...but soon my initiative took an unexpected turn. i have an international liaison, a friend from the school i once attended.
-Current events forum...not at my hs but at a local middle school and at a local library.
-approx. 800 hours of community service (i wanted to volunteer at an orphanage but there's none around this area...i wish i could establish one but this goal is too farfetched)
miscellaneous (i'm not exactly passionate about them but they need to be up and running):
newspaper, sectional editor this year (i'm competing with 2 people to become EIC next year)
Literary magazine (i submit creative writing pieces twice every month, which isn't much, i know)
even though my clubs are boring, my hobbies (in my humble opinion) are not. for fun, i study how different societies live and create projects out of them. for instance, i travel to various different places (as permissible) to witness amish lifestyle, orthodox jewish lifestyle, rural lifestyle, ghetto lifestyle, etcetera. this interest was inspired by my childhood experiences, since my family moved around a lot. because of my such, i want to major in sociology in college.
despite the poor gpa i got sophomore year, my counselor and teachers understand what i went through and say they are willing to fight for my admission. i will arrange interviews a year in advance (i actually interviewed already with a regional rep at Chicago but it was casual) to give them room to consider my personal circumstance, since i know they will be flooded with applications come next year. i will also apply to summer programs at northwestern and chicago.
