Improve chances with international competitons?

Brian1025Brian1025 Registered User Posts: 14 New Member
Hello~

I am a rising sophomore aiming for HYP, MIT, and Stanford.

I live in France, and the kids and teachers here aren't really motivated to teach or learn. France doesn't participate in the international math Olympiad, biology olympiad, chemistry olympiad, or physics. They don't participate in RSI or INTEL ISEF either.

I want to do premedicine, or biological studies.

Are there any activities (summer or school year) for international students that are available?

Thanks so much :)

    Hi Brian,

France does compete in the ISOs (International Science Olympiads, which includes the IMO (International Mathematical Olympiad)) ;-). You could compete in these if you are good, and lucky, enough to make the team. Link to the page of the French team of the IMO: https://www.imo-official.org/country_team_r.aspx?code=FRA

Now, there are many things you could do. First of all, you could compete in other competitions (Mathematical Kangaroo), as well as do research. You could join your school council (or the national counterpart). Honestly, there are so many things... You could do an exchange program, go traveling, become an editor for ..., build a company, raise money for..., do volunteering work, become world-class in something etc etc. Which of these (and any other) is/are appropriate for you and your situation and dream(s), is something only you can decide.

    Good luck :-)

If you're not American, you should know that your chances of getting into an American medical school are very poor! If you want to be a doctor, staying in France makes much more sense.
