I would have changed my letters because I didn't know that one of my teachers really liked me and could demonstrate my character in a holistic manner. Kind of late now for my first choice college but now I know better for my RDs!

I would definitely change my GPA. I messed around FR. and SO. year of high school, which definitely hurts.

"Looking at this really made me examine the way we've all come to look at our high school years. My SAT scores were a little lower than I would have liked, I got 4 B's, I was in 6 EC's, I played no sports. Everyone told me that senior year I should have signed up for calculus and physics, for transcipt sake, but I'm taking AP Euro and Newspaper III, instead. I won't sacrifice classes I love for classes I hate, nor did I spend every spare moment of free-time Junior year studying for SATs. I'm doing all right though, and I have no regrets. I've read a lot of what people have written on this forum; you're impressive, smart, talented, the "ideal" students, but in such competition as that which we create for ourselves, we lose sight of the fact that we can't do it all. And while we all could have taken that harder class or joined that extra math club that we were disinterested in, it's not our job to be perfect, but only to be human."

What we are saying is that joining that extra club or taking that class and trying a little harder and being less lazy was highly possible. It wasn't inhuman at all, we were just slacking.

If I could go back in time, I'd go kick my younger self and call her an idiot for slacking off during 9th and 10th grade.... If I'd have studied for a few more tests, I might have gotten a way better GPA... and honestly, now that I think about it, I sat there complaining about geometry for hours, when I could have been studying... compared to calculus, geometry was a blast.

Gpa

Well, Bs are OK, as long as you got the scores in the exams! Also, were they end of year Bs? Remember that only those would count. Anyway, it's OK to have a couple Bs. I know tons of folks without straight As that go Ivy.

SATI, SATII, anything with the letters S, A, and T in that order!!! You can see my profile in "what are my chances?: uc's + oos big names???" Here's it in short: 4.17GPA (3.82UW; 4.00UC) w/ enough awards/honors and comm service (almost 300hrs) to get in just about anywhere outside the Ivy League. My problem: I CAN'T take standardized tests...at all! My SATI is in the 1700's. It's annoying that one stupid test can stop you from getting into UCB or UCLA, but UCD (match) and UCSD (slight reach) are my top 2 choices and I feel good about getting in. So SAT's get 99% of my vote...the other 1%: 1st sem junior year I got a C+...the only non high level B, A-, or A of my life...that's all, it's nice to vent. whew, have a nice night everyone.

most schools emphasize GPA more than SAT...admissions officers realize that 4 years of grades will probably be more accurate than one day of (early morning >.<) testing...i don't remember which admissions officer told me that but it was either Harvard, Yale, Cal-Tech, or Pomona
