Here's hope for others: not a standout at HS, made 4 C's (freshman/soph years), never was a president of a club or started one, school involvement was more as a support, no real leadership other than tutoring, giving music help.
If you made a few C's early on, it is not the end of the world. The info about an upward trend in performance is real.
Dig into the things you love, narrow your involvement to those passions (music, sports here) and spend time doing a lot of it, pick schools where your stats are in the upper 1/4-1/2.
Be yourself and don't cheat. You will be prouder of your accomplishments if you don't and a few spots in class rank obviously don't matter. Pick schools that are a match for you as a person. Best wishes to all.

Junior Year:
I spent my junior year abroad with AFS. I have always been interested in other cultures and foreign languages and decided that I wanted the full immersion experience that comes best with a high school exchange. It was an amazing opportunity, and I learned more than I think I have in school. Some people questioned why I would go because I would miss the opportunity to take college classes, or more APs, but the experience of living abroad, immersing my self in a culture, and learning an entirely new language was more valuable than any class I could have taken.
Sophomore Year:
AP German 5
AP World History
AP Chemistry
Drafting
Advanced World Lit
Advanced Pre-Calc
Jazz Band
Freshman Year:
Advanced Freshman LA
Algebra II honors
Jazz Band
PE
Advanced Biology
AP US Government
AP Human Geography
German 3/4
Extracurriculars:
My main passion is rowing. I started rowing sophomore year and have been on varsity rowing since. I also swam 2 seasons of high school, as well as in the summer and I played lacrosse freshman year. I did one year of Model UN and helped plan an international conference on world affairs at my high school. I have worked in the summers and as a teaching assistant at my synagogue during the year.
Honors:
National Merit Finalist
Academic Letter
Honor Roll
Member of Mensa
Don't do too many extracurriculars and overstretch yourself because you think it is what colleges want to see. Do a few things that interest you and devote yourself to those. |

I am really thankful for all these opportunities and that I started my essays in the summer. That took SO much stress off of senior year. Thanks to those on CC that read and critiqued my essays! |

if u enter your GPA and SAT score, this site will calculate your percent chance of acceptance to schools
check it out: Uchance.com - Calculate your percent chance of acceptance at dozens of colleges and universities in the U.S.
| UChance.com is a horrible site. It spits out a meaningless percentage, and has a note at the bottom alerting users that essays, awards, ECs, and teacher recommendations can be just as important in the decision making process. No one needs a search engine that compares stats to average ranges. This site is a gimmick and in my humble opinion not a valuable tool for CC's users. Checking to see if scores are in average ranges is more pragmatic. |

| According to UChance.com, a person with a 5.0 W GPA and a 2400 on the SAT only has a 78% chance of acceptance at UCB. This speaks volumes to how horrible of a site it is.
Stick with CC. We offer much better services with a personal touch lol. |
