I posted all of my stats (EVERYTHING) and I think people don't want to give advice if the title of your post isn't interesting enough.

Hi Everyone
Thanks for the helpful advice and I will try to make this "what are my chances?" question really short and simple. Basically, I have just moved to California this year as in Summer 2008 for my senior year. So I am a permanent resident of California but not a citizen of the U.S. ( I moved from Canada). I really want to know what my chances are to get into a UC school as deadlines are approaching quick. So this is what I am working with:
GPA: 3.9947
SAT I: ... I only had one shot at this so it's 1650 - which I know is not good which is why I'm worried.
SAT II: Doing them December
Extracurricular: I would say my most significant involvement would be with a student led volunteer agency, we were 8 students and succeeded in raising $5000 for Kenya. Along with this we provided various volunteering opportunities for students whether they wanted to be a tutor, marathon coordinator, hospital assistant etc. I have a lot of volunteering experience but no work experience.
Honors Courses: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English, French, AP Calc AB
Awards: -Principal's Award for Student Leadership
-Student of the Month
I'm basically worrying about my SAT scores, if someone could help me I would really appreciate it as I am completely new to the system. If someone could recommend a campus to me I would also appreciate it as I have no idea what's what. I generally like urban areas complete with shopping, movies, restaurants etc. Beaches would be nice too.
Thanks.

"Too much information is listing every single club you've ever joined or attended. Only note clubs if you're an officer"
I disagree I think if it was something that you were in starting in like 4th grade and you're still in it, it DEFINATELY needs to go on there even if your not an officer.

I've only just been looking around this site, but I am already annoyed by something I see throughout the Chance Me threads. Don't hop into someone's thread and give a 2 sentence comment that doesn't help at all (That school and this school are pretty competitive, so I don't think you can get into them. Good Luck!), and then add a request to chance you back, as if you've done something for them and deserve something in return. A short, half-hearted comment doesn't help anyone.
My moral? Try to give real, meaningful input, and don't nag someone in their own thread to rate your chances in another.

| What a freshman needs to know
I really want to get into Wake Forest, UVA, or Villanova there are other colleges i want to go to but these are the three main ones
Right now I'm a freshman from Kansas I have a 4.0 right not but i know my classes are gonna be a lot harder next year. i haven't take the SAT or ACT.
I'm captain of my school basketball team, and a executive member in stuco, and i'm in a leadership program that only a few students in the city are accepted into. I'm still in Jr. High because the high school is grades 10-12 but when i start at the high school i'm going to be alot more involved.
I also volunteer three times a week.
What are my chances of getting into one of these schools and what do i need to do to make sure i get accepted? and if anyone knows that ACT or SAT scores i need to get that would be great.

One thing that would really improve the chance threads is if people would give an idea of the schools, or at least the field, to which they are applying.
That would certainly help provide more directed replies.

To improve the chance thread, you can write out your essay and we can also use that to evaluate your chances =P

I dont think the 4.0, 2400 kids are just bragging. Maybe they were raised in different environments where many people are, by your standards, overachieving. Maybe their parents push them. Maybe they have seen friends get into top schools with only the minimum of 4.0 and 2400.
We shouldnt be so quick to judge people on the Internet. I know some things get annoying, but there might be reasons for people's insecurities. I have spent lots of time looking up stats, but I dont feel like I know the Ivies, MIT, Stanford, etc., though admittedly that may very well be because theyre unpredictable crapshoots, but we hope that someone on this forum has some sort of inside connection to the admissions of these schools.
Most interesting thread, btw.

The sad thing is that I am one of the people who really need the advice from senior members of this site, as I have just moved to the states from Singapore, and have no clue about which college will match me. From the general consensus on this thread, most senior members do not "chance" people, which hurts people who are in my situation. Please, a request to people who know their stuff, not just those looking for chances in return, have a look at this and any advice you give will be extremely helpful. Maybe you should include a "What are my chances?" form. Therefore, all the threads would be easier to read for the members & it will ensure that the people making the threads will include only necessary information.

| RE: How to improve the chances of chances threads?
For improving your thread chance you write your own blog, essay and articles then repeat all this task. Then defiantly you improve your chance.

I'm new here, and I have a couple of questions.
What does "bump" refer to?
How long do "chance me" threads usually kick around for?
Are they ever "recycled," or is that viewed as pushy?

Bump refers to what you call recycling, and it is annoying.

I think it's ok to bump a thread if only two or so people responded. It's only annoying when people bump threads when they have 5+ pages of responses.
