My GPA right now is 3.58 unweighted. Junior year is not going too well. Does that really decrease my chances of getting in?

my gpa was a 3.85 unweighted, and i still got into nyu's gsp program. hopefully you have outstanding extra curriculars and a great essay. good luck though.

UW GPA I read was like 3.6? It was on the viewbooks they sent.

You really can't look at GPA as something that is significant unless you're comparing to students from your school, because high schools are of different qualities and have different weighting systems. However, people who go to NYU, it seems, have primarily high Bs and low As on their transcripts.

I think NYU looks at the SAT scores more heavily though. 2100/1350 is usually good enough for CAS I believe. ED really ups your chances.

Yeah, it accepts the largest amount of students. And if you're not totally sure what your major is going to be, you should go with CAS. I am. And Stern's the hardest.

I always thought Gallatin was the easiest to get into, I.E lower average GPA, SATs, etc. Although with more emphasis on essays. (That's where I am right now, and that played a factor into where I applied! Gallatin = great for people who know exactly what they want to do/have no idea what they want to do).

I actually think Gallatin is the hardest to get into because there's no safety zone you know? Like there's no SAT score or GPA you can achieve that'll guarantee your admission you know? They pretty much only clear about your essay so it has to be damn good. :P It's that wild card factor of Gallatin that scares me, lol.

I was always really confused about Gallatin. I tried to look up the number of students enrolled at each school, so maybe that would give us an idea as to which school is the easiest/hardest to get into...but I didn't really find anything. lol.
I do know that Stern is the hardest to get into out of all the schools.

Average GPA for successful freshman applicants is 3.6. SAT is 2100. Both according to Naviance scattergrams, it almost always hovers around 3.6.

Gallatin does have a "wild card" factor. You're essays need to be very precise about why Gallatin and why you can't study this elsewhere within NYU. Failure to do so results in rejection, regardless of stats unless you have an amazing application (top ~5% in everything). Even then you have to show some comprehension of the program. If you look in last year's transfer thread, 3.8s with honor programs were rejected because they didn't know what they wanted to study; they just wanted in.

ED does help. Precollege helps as well. You must show genuine interest and passion. It's evident that NYU's adcoms absolutely despise any type of backdoor entry through NYU infopop boards and how they talk about which school to choose. Stern's admissions is almost entirely quantitative, CAS is a mix, Gallatin is the latter (but you still need at least a 3.5 unless you talk about something profound that they haven't seen before). If you really want to go, CAS ED is your best bet. Make sure you have some sort of background in the major you apply to, though (ie English major=AP English, newspaper, book club, etc).

Definately. Score above a 2050 and I think you have an excellent shot with some decent ECs. Passion and genuine interest for your major is key with NYU apps. Go for it!
