Class of 2009
Ethnicity: White
Residency: North Carolina
Rank: 1/167
GPA: 3.9812 (UW) // 4.7 (W)
Type of School: Non-Competitive // Inner City // Struggling & Poor
SAT: 2100 (Projected after Summer Prep; 1840 currently)
SAT II: US History – 760
Math IIC – 670 (Projected; taking in June)
AP: I am taking AP English Language, AP US History, and AP Human Geography exams this year. I expect a 4 on English Language, a 5 on US History, and a 4 on Human Geography (self-study).
Extracurricular: Quiz Bowl (Captain)
Leo Club (May be President next year)
National Honor Society (President next year)
Algebra Tutor (10th Grade)
American History Tutor (11th Grade)
Varsity Wrestling Manager (11th Grade)
Awards: NC Governor’s School 2008 (Very selective summer program, admissions-wise) – Numerous departmental awards –

Other:
•My EFC is going to be zero. I live with a single mother (father is deceased) and three other siblings. My life has not been easy, needless to say (I am not getting into the details). Essays will reflect this.

•My passion is teaching. I want to become a teacher and perhaps the next Horace Mann or John Dewey. I want to revolutionize education in a whole new way after seeing what it is like to go to an inner city school and be poor myself. Essays will focus on that.

•I know my EC’s are not amazing. But with what I do have, I am passionate about. I haven’t cured cancer or fed babies in Africa. My EC’s have been stunted by my socioeconomic situation.

Interesting mixture of very liberal & very conservative schools. Good chance at Duke University due to your class rank, location & socio-economic status.

Great chances at most places, but a lot may depend on your scores (SATs, APs, etc)... it's easy to "project" scores, harder to attain them.

^^

No disagreements. That's pretty much how I have thought out in my head. Grinnell is sort of weird though. Their acceptance rate is around 50%, but everyone that goes there has an extremely good SAT score (2000+). I would classify it as a match instead of a safety for me.

Clark is really cool. I love this safety. They have a consistently best-ranked Geography department. I would love to go to this school even though it is a safety for me!
