Dear CCF members:

First of all, I really appreciate all the comments and discussions in the past few years when I visited this forum and I actually learned a lot of helpful information regarding undergraduate admission particularly to UC schools. Between, I'm graduating this June from UCLA.

I have decided to advance my academic goals so I have recently applied to some Master degree programs:
1. MS in Electrical engineering at UCLA
2. MS in Electrical engineering at USC
3. MS in Engineering Management at USC
4. MS in Electrical engineering at Calstate LA (safety)
I applied to these programs in February or March while I didn't take the GRE so my application is incomplete and I'm still nervously waiting for my admission decision. I'm kind of concerned because I learn that lots of applicants have received their admission decisions already but my application was delayed because of the GRE.

Anyways, here is my profile:
Pasadena City College (PCC): 3.8 (math major)
UCLA: 3.5 (math/applied science with accounting/management)

Straight A in:
single variable calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equation, fundamental of computer science, C++ programming, and upper division real analysis, and optimization together with
at least B+ in all other math courses.

Completed 2 MBA graduate management science courses

Working experience: (all part time)
2 years of math tutoring at PCC
>1 year of grading calculus homework assignment at UCLA

Scholarships and awards:
Numerous schlarships and awards (combined total amount >$10,000)

GRE score: (I didn't do well on this one because I was rushing to take it without much preparation and I have just received my score today)
Verbal: 380 (extremely concerned about this)
Math: 780
Writting: 4.0

Letters of recommendations:
Many of my professors have encouraged me to go to graduate school and they highly recommend me. Also, many of them have known me at for years of study.

How much chance realistically do I really have for those programs listed above? Please evaluate my profile if you would like to. I greatly appreciate your comments.

It doesnt really look that great. You would seem all good to go if it were not for your verbal score.

I am extremely worried about my GRE verbal score ruining my admission chance even though my other areas like GPA, letters of recommendations, GRE math score and so on are very competitive.

Unfortunately, the deadline for application is near the beginning of June so retaking GRE would not be a feasible solution in my case as it will take at least 2 weeks for them to grade and send to corresponding schools.

I also wonder if we can selectively retake the GRE Verbal part only and skips the math or writting portions, is that possible? <<< Any one has insight in this?

Well if your verbal score didn't prevent you from making into UCLA I doubt it'd hurt you after you've proven how hard you can work at the undergraduate level. I'm guessing you got a yes on both?

The verbal scores are GRE, not SAT you know right? His GRE score has nothing to do with getting into UCLA. SAT Verbal is a whole different story.

Also as a math major it would seem plausible that one's rhetorical analysis skills would weakin over time if your main academic focus is about as far away from literature and reading as you can get.
