Ethnicity/gender/financial: White, female, will not apply for financial aid
School type: Very, very competitive public - sends many to HYPSM
GPA: upward trend: 3.81 freshman/soph but a 3.88 junior all UW (dont know weighted)
SAT I: 800 CR/ 730 M /800 W (1530/2330)
SAT II: 760 Literature, 720 Math IC, 780 French, 690 World History, going to take math II in june
EC: debate (have done well on national circuit despite small program), editor in chief of newspaper, clubs, volunteer work, peer tutor, various honor groups. also, awards: national merit scholar semifinalist at least (228 psat), national french exam (very high score but i don't remember exactly)
AP: World Hist 5, Euro Hist 4, Government 5, Eng Lit 5
Essays/recs: Will be outstanding. Trust me.

Chances for:
Amherst -
BC -
Cornell -
Davidson -
Duke (legacy) -
Georgetown -
Harvard -
UVA -
Yale (legacy) -

I want to study gov. Can you put reach/match/etc next to them? Just copy the list from above. And any safety suggestions? I prefer east coast. thank you very much to those who reply!!! <3

GPA is a little low but it's unweighted and if it's the school is that competitive it seems fine. Strong SAT especially if you could bring up the math. Good subject tests, ECs and aps.

Amherst - Reach
BC - Low match
Cornell - Match
Davidson - Low match
Duke (legacy) - Low reach
Georgetown - Match?
Harvard - High Reach
UVA - Low match
Yale (legacy) - High Reach

I don't know about safeties.

Amherst - Slight Reach
BC - In
Cornell - Match
Davidson - In
Duke (legacy) - Slight Reach
Georgetown - high Match
Harvard - Reach
UVA - In
Yale (legacy) - Slight Reach

I would add Williams, Princeton, and Dartmouth (seem very similar to those on your list).

I think you're in very good shape and I agree with applesandoranages' assessment.

Question: which state are you from? (If you don't mind saying. If you do mind, don't worry about it.) If you're from Virginia, you have a better shot at UVA than otherwise. Also, knowing what state you live in could help us guide you to some in-state safety schools.

I would definitely get a couple safeties in there. However, if you apply to BC early action and get in, that may not be necessary. Applying EA for BC would be to your advantage because it might mean you can apply to fewer schools--particularly safety schools.

Hmm...a couple of safety-ish schools might be those in upstate NY like Skidmore and Hamilton. You could also look at Holy Cross (similar to BC). You probably also want a school where you are an absolute shoo-in and could get into the honors program if one is available (usually a public often in-state school works best for this).

Is there anything specific you are looking for in a school? All you schools are good, prestigious ones, but their size, location, and atmosphere vary quite a bit, which makes it a bit harder to match you with other schools like those.

I'm in the north east. The most important factor is academic strength. I like small to medium-sized schools, not too rural (which is why I'm not sure about Dartmouth and Williams but I'll think about it), LACs or universities (there are pros and cons for both so that doesn't matter to me), strong gov/polisci programs. And I'll have fries with that

Also look into Patriot League Schools like Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette... all great small schools with strong athletics.

Yes. I know it depends on the individual college but what should the acceptance rate of a college be for it to be considered a safety?
