| chance in retrospect... to preface this:
i am a senior who has already been through the process, but am interested to see how i would have been chanced.
applying: washington and lee (ED), uva, william and mary, mary washington, vandy, ole miss, auburn, goucher, washington college, sewanee, rhodes, dickinson, f&m, unc asheville, american
sex: female
location: virginia
school: top prep/boarding school in pa
race: white
financial: upper middle class
alum connections: legacy at uva and vandy
GPA: my school doesn't do GPAs, but my academic average, with the exception of 9th grade, has been around an 85 (my school does not weight, also). i generally get B's with some A's, and C's a couple times in math and science.
Rank: my school does not rank.
SAT: 710 critical reading, 630 math (i know, i know), 650 writing.
SAT II: 650 lit
Essays: i wrote my common app essay on teaching myself to play guitar in one summer. other essays for supplements were about my passion for writing, my passion for visual art, and an underground newspaper that i started at my school. writing is my "thing", so i spent a lot of time on my essays and was proud of them.
Teacher Recs: i haven't seen them, but i'm sure they were great. one of the teachers i chose was one whose class i did not really excel in, but i have a great personal relationship with her. i chose my recs wisely.
Counselor Rec: i'm really close with my counselor and he knows me well.
Hook: i've done everything i can to further myself in journalism, from internships to my school paper to summer programs.
EC's: editor of school weekly newspaper, school writing tutor, officer of environmental club, ballet, president of my school's chapter of the young democrats, school tour guide.
Work experience: 1. internship at local newspaper for two summers. i had about fifteen of my articles published. i sent my schools a portfolio of my work from the internship and from my school paper. 2. internship for a political campaign of a somewhat influential william and mary alum. 3. job for my dad's company.
Courseload:
ENGLISH - two years of ap, two years of honors.
HISTORY - american history, world history, ap comparative politics.
SCIENCE - general bio, physics, honors bio, ap env sci.
MATH - my weakness! geometry, alg II, precalc, pre-engineering (no idea why i signed on for that).
LANGUAGE - up to french 4. i turned down ap because ap french at my school is notoriously killer.
ART - i've taken lots and lots of art courses, showing a real interest and passion.
Other: i interview very well, so i suppose that helped. |

| Hey, you got some great chances. Legacy helps, but im sure you could get into Washington ED if u portray urself well in essays... are u thinking about retaking SAT 1, that would help to
Good that ur editor-and-chief of newspaper, show that as well... always ur ECs are focussed thats good... ur gonna do well no doubt... also since ur like writing and art, try to get published for writing and make an art portfolio
they will see that u are really wanting to pursue a career in that... |

| My guess would be that you were rejected from vandy, W & L, and William and Mary. of course there are always exceptions, and the fact that you made this thread tells me that you are satisfied with your results. |

| My guess--Rejected at washington and lee (ED), uva, william and mary, vandy
Accepted--ole miss, auburn, goucher, washington college, sewanee, rhodes, dickinson, f&m, unc asheville, american
Waitlist--Mary Washington
Going to: Probably depends upon how much financial aid you got (if any), whether you got off the waitlist at Mary Washington and your major (art, art history?)
P.S. If you were able to get your grades up to a 88-89 average in your last semester and then appealed, you might have been admitted in-state for UVA, especially as a legacy. |

| Being from Va, I would guess you were not accepted to UVA, W&M, W&L. Vandy would be a pivot point WL, maybe. Wash College in MD or SL? I would say not accepted in SL, accepted if MD. I would give you an accept everywhere else. |
