Stanford SCEA

*Moved from "College Admissions". Realized this is where I should post this.*

So uhm... I must say I am feeling a bit of worried right now. Since couple yars back I have set Stanford as the "dream school" (first choice, obviously)... and decided I should do SCEA. I felt like I was in complete control of what I wanted to do. However, after reading this thread...

How much does applying SCEA to Stanford affect the chances of a reach applicant?

I really don't know if I want to EA anymore. Yeah, I want to go there, but how it will affect my chances? Like everyone said in that thread, doing EA does mean I am competing in a better pool of applicants. Plus, a couple of my friends with pretty good stats straight up got REJECTED in the EA.

I am afraid that I might be wasting my EA on Stanford. I don't know. It sort of feels like I am wasting my EA on Stanford when I can try somewhere else safer, and just RD to Stanford.

I want you guys to take a quick look at my stats and give me some advice. To be honest, I have always thought I would have a decent shot at Stanford SCEA. I might be wrong though.

Btw I didn't intend this thread to be another bragging opportunity, as I already know the stats are pretty good. I don't like "2400 SAT 5.0 GPA CAN I GET INTO HARVARD, TELL ME NOW BUMP BUMP BUMP" threads either hahaha.

EA to Stanford? Or somewhere else + RD to Stanford?

Starcraft LOL. How are the Americans anyways? All I know is that fully upgraded zerglings will get you in anywhere. I also want to thank you for helping make the Korean SAT II curve impossible for me. Just kidding

Forgive my ignorance, but is being Korean considered to be an "under represented minority"? I think Stanford likes under represented minorities.

Therifleman62: Americans are actually doing pretty well in the foreigner StarCraft scene. World Cyber Games USA Nationals are pretty soon.

In fact, a guy who goes by the name of IdrA is currently in Korea on a progaming team, although he's not doing very well. I think USA has recently surpassed Germany and Poland in terms of skill, right behind Korea and China now.

Get this though - The best American/German/Polish player would be considered just above average in Korea. Korean progamers, semi-pros, and even amateurs can easily beat any non-Korean.

While you are certainly a viable candidate at Stanford, you are far from a shoo in. A 1500 M plus CR is just average at Stanford. My son looked at Stanford with slightly higher stats and did indeed choose to ED another school where he had a better chance. In today's college admissions game you need to make hard choices. Do you want to use your one early shot on a school that rejects most with your stats/profile or use it where you have better odds? Only you can make that choice.

Stanford looks at writing too, so it would be 2300 instead of a 1500. I think that looks a little bit better. Thanks for the advice. I decided to go ahead and apply to Stanford (This thread was made in July)

Gotta hope for the best, I guess.

Recs: One from my math teacher who I have had for two years. He's an alumni at Stanford so I guess he can write some nice things lol.

Other one is from my IB english teacher, who is also the KSA advisor.

Essays: Should be good.
