chances/advice for USAFA

This is my first choice school, I'm not looking for 13th grade, and I want to serve.

gpa unweighted: 3.60
SAT: 1910
reading: 630
math: 610
writing: 670

NHS treasurer, captain V swim team, band, volunteer every Saturday with kids with disabilities, work part time during school year and full time over the summer.

I'm achieving more than the average on all the cfa scores except the dreaded basketball throw, and everything in my physical turned out OK.

My questions are basically: Do I have a considerable shot with a lower math sat score, will I be competitive if I am leaning towards a humanities major at an engineering school, and does having uneven eyesight (unable to fly) lessen my chances of receiving an appointment when my ALO keeps on hammering that "USAFA is the pilot factory".

Any advice is greatly appreciated. My ALO is on a two month vacation in Aruba, so I've been on my own setting up appointments, paperwork, etc.

Your grades and scores are good enough for the Naval Academy and West Point, however the AFA has a gpa average of 3.8. I can't say I'm certain though. To fly in the military you must have correctable eyesight. Make sure your eyes can be corrected with surgery. I doubt your eyesight will keep you out of the academy, just out of the cockpit. There are no ways (waivers) around that. The AF will pay for surgery, the Army (helicopters if your interested) and Navy do not.

Consider an ROTC program at a regular college. You'll still be commissioned a 2nd Lieu and be qualified to fly no matter your college major. You'll also have much less military obligations. A spectacular way to go is Emory Riddle or the U of North Dakota.

If you retake the SAT and manage to do a little better than you should have a decent shot. Around five kids from my school got into the AFA this past year and one or two of them had gpa's around yours. I definitely think you aught to apply, but also apply to the other service academies and rotc programs.

You should be competitive. It really depends on whether you are able to get an appointment from your congressman or senator. You can apply for appts to all the academies but it just depends on what slots are open.
