Chances at HYP?!

Female
International
Asian
Top Private School in Canada.

SAT - 2230
SAT II - 770, 760, 750

UW - 93 % (Our A are 86 +)
GPA - 4.0
No honours, IBs, APs, offered.
Rank - School doesn't rank
Don't have valedictorians either..
Not very competitive because many just go the the university closest to home which is UBC, and it's quite a good school.

Grade 9 Summer -
Taught disabled children English in China

Grade 10 Summer -
Volunteered at FoodBank, SPCA, and worked.
Internship at a Lawyer's office.

Grade 11 Summer (Currently) -
Taking AP online classes.
Volunteering at FoodBank, SPCA, and working.
(Might go back to China for 1 month) - Tentative.
But if I do, I will be doing some volunteer work.

ECs-
Special Olympics - 5 years
FoodBank - 4 years
SPCA - 4 years
Salvation Army - 3 years
Volunteer at various runs such as the Science Fair Fun Run - 5 years
Boys and Girls Club - 1 year (Minimum age is 16)
UBC Camp Helper - 2 years
Habitat for Humanity- 2 years

Clubs-

Grade 9-12 (Throughout 9 -12)

Founded "Free the Children" Club. (Raise a lot of money towards the foundation)
Snowboarding and Skiing Club (Organize trips twice a year)

Debate and Public Speaking Club (Hoping President next year)
Model UN Club


Grade 10 - (Joined in just grade 10)
Grade 10 Volunteering Club

I will be joining the yearbook staff in my senior year.

Work Experience -


McDonalds for 2 years
Ihop for 2 years
Worked for my dad since I was 12

Awards - (We don't have like Seimen or USABO)

Regional Science Fair - 3 years
Honourable mention, 3rd Place, 2nd Place
A bunch of random awards from school.
President's Volunteer Service Award.
Honour Roll

I speak English, French, and Mandarin. I'm teaching myself Spanish, and a little bit of Italian.

Our student government consists of a few presidents, selected by students and teachers. I hope to be one.

I will be needing Financial Aid.

I agree with Millerl1te. Although you are a very intelligent applicant, seeing that interning for a lawyer and going to science fairs don't really show your passions. I think it's very important to show your passions in your colleges, but if you can just find that, I think you'll be a very strong applicant. Good luck!

hmm. Being an international is hard, I'll have to admit. But your SAT scores look good and you have killer-good EC's. All your colleges seem reasonably within reach, but internationals and Asians usually are much harder to get in, so if I were you I would prepare my mindset for that.

Well it seems to me that your Community service, although "extensive" isnt consistent. Colleges want to see consistency with ECs and CS, not like "I did it over the summer from 9-11 grade", but more like you woke up in the wee hours of one or two days a week all year and volunteered some of your time to something. Also, not to be repetitive, but what are YOU interested in? Lawyers office, science fair, debate....choose one or two things and make them YOURS. Good Luck.
