Average Numbers, Stellar Students Get Into Top Schools, Too

Is it true? Let's start a thread about intelligent individuals with average numbers (all these 4.0s are intimidating!) that still got into their dream schools based on demonstrated interest, passions, and the extra oomph factor.

Graduated seniors and so on, "actual results" please.

Subscribing.

This oughta be interesting. Based on what I see over in the "Stats Profile" section of CC, there's not a lot of "average" being accepted to top schools.

I come from a low performing school, so there's a lot of students who are considered top at our school, but average at others.

For example, my friend only had two clubs, he was president for both and prior office holding for a year, he wasn't in sports, he scored a 2000 on his SATS, he's hispanic, and passed a majority of his AP tests. I believe, 3 on eng. lang., 3 on AP cal ab, 5 on french. He didn't get straight A's, i think he got some Bs but that was it. He got into Columbia, Yale, Harvard, everything he applied for. So you don't need to have a 5.0 just to get into your dream college...Although it helps. Compared to all the other profiles i've seen on this site, his isn't the best.

I think your chances are a little better if you come from a school where it is less competitive and you're considered a minority.
