Im only human

Sorry bout the title, just wanted to catch the attention of forum browsers...

Anyway, Ill just get to it.

Male, Caucasian

SAT:2240
ACT:taking in september
SAT 2:Chinese (800), MATH 2 (750)
AP: Chinese-5, Calc AB-4

GPA: 4.0

CS: I record audio textbooks for Blind and Dyslexic students. Ive been volunteering for 3 years and have accumulated about 250 hours (I volunteer every week 2 hours on Saturday).

Last year in China (full academic year), I taught English to the children of Migrant workers (China's mobile labor force: they do all he construction and dirty jobs of china, coming in from the countryside to find better life in the cities) for about an hour on Wednesday afternoons (all year - about 46 hours).

On the weekend, I took care of orphans who have undergone surgery for conditions such as cleft pallet (about 5 hours on Saturdays).

ES: I attend Chinese Language school every Sunday for two hours. (4 yrs)

I am a member of the Red Cross Chapter in my area and have undergone Emergency training for disasters. (3 yrs)

I am close to attaining my black belt in TaekwonDo (3 yrs).

I started a Red Cross Leadership club at my school (set up community service events and participate in local Red Cross events).

I am the head of the Chinese culture club at my school.

I founded the "Club Med" at my school (a club for people interested in pursuing medical studies. Brings speakers in to speak with kids, discussion, etc.).

I Interned at a local hospital for 9 hours (full day) every Friday this summer. I shadow doctors (mainly Cardiologists) on their rounds, and watch surgeries.

In China: Calligraphy classes on Tuesdays for 1.5 hrs a week.

San Xian (Chinese instrument) classes for 2 hours a week.

So Im gonna be a Senior next year. I just got back from School Year Abroad China, where I spent my Junior year studying Chinese in Beijing while living with a Chinese host family. The experience was amazing, and the academics were grueling. Sadly, in China no Science courses were offered in China, so I am now taking 2 physics courses at a local college to get credit for Physics 1 at my school (and to jump into BIO 2 next year).

I know a ton of kids have more AP's, better SAT's and so forth, but Im hoping that I still have a chance to get into some good schools (for Chinese and Medical studies).

Lemme know what yout think my chances are. Thanks for your time.

I think you have a good a chance as anyone. Make sure your essays are good and original, though!

You really have to be the most Chinese white guy ever... XD Your grades look fine and your extreme interest in Chinese culture (which really exceeds most Chinese kids I know) could potentially be a point of great interest. It really depends on how you present yourself but I think you have a decent to good chance, and at the very least you will probably stand out.

Ya your Chinese emphasis is soooooo sweet. The work you've done academically and extracurricularly with Chinese makes Stanford very attainable! I'd like to meet you (and that's the feeling Adcoms love to get when they read an application.)

Best of luck to you!
