Having minor meltdown...please give me a chance! p.s. chance me I chance you :)

Hi! Thanks for checking this out and helping me out!!!

I am a rising Senior at a suburban public high school that does pretty well in college admissions. My GPA is 4.5 out of 5.3 (my school only does weighted) and my class rank is 26 out of 520. My SAT scores at this point in time are Math 650, writing 670, and CR 740, but I plan on retaking them. My subject tests are Lit: 680 and World history: 710.

EC:
Editor-in-Chief of my school newspaper...
I have been an Editor of it since my freshman year (Opinions Editor, Copy Editor, then Editor-in-Chief)

Founder/President of the Model United Nations club at my school.

President of the Midnight Run club, a club that distributes food and clothing to those without homes in New York City and the surrounding are

I am also a member of other various clubs which I held minor leadership roles in: Science Research (since sophomore year), Mock Trial(since freshman year).

I also was a member of the Chinese Exchange Club, which was really just preparation for an exchange in which students from China came to our high school (two stayed at my house) and 12 students from my high school (including me) went to China later on in the year.

Sports
Track: Freshman and Junior year
Cheerleading: Spring, Sophomore year-present

Community Service:
Besides the Midnight Run, I have volunteered for about 25 hours at a place in my town called El Centro Hispano, a place for people of Hispanic people of my area to come and recieve help in getting a job or a home, among other things.
I also volunteered in the Dominican Republic for a week at an orphanage through an organization called Orphanage Outreach.
I am also currently working on a volunteer project called Nothing but Nets, fundraising for it in my town with help from the local Youth Bureau.

Family History:
I come from a middle-class Caucasian family. My father went to George Washington University and my mom went to SUNY Stony Brook. My mom went to Pace University for law school and my dad went to the George Washington graduate school of political management.

Thank you for your help!
Schools I'm interested in:
Swarthmore (ED)
GW (ED2 if i don't get into Swarthmore)
Davidson
Brown
SUNY Geneseo
Princeton-I have a cousin who is a prominent alumni
Emory

My recs and my essay should also be very good.

One last thing: There are possibly 2, (definately 1), students applying to Swarthmore. Both have considerably better rank (numbers 2 and 3), GPA, etc. than me. How badly does this hurt me?

Thanks for trying to chance me
I'm very interested in international relations - are there any other schools that you would suggest considering my interests and my stats?

Also, any advice for safetys?

Sorry for the ridiculous length of this, plus any typos or grammatical errors.

Your ECs are good, but your GPA and test scores are low for some of the schools you're looking at. None are totally out of possibility, but Brown and Princeton are pretty significant reaches (unless your Princeton connection is really good). GW sounds good--still tough to get into, but you've got a good shot. But I'm not really any expert on this, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Yeah...I don't think you're in at Princeton or Brown. Swarthmore is a reach too but ED might help. GW is good for ED2, and I think you're in at the other ones. Emory is a maybe.

Cousin's don't count as legacy or have any pull on admissions, don't count on that.

Apply ED to Swarthmore and you may get in.. If interested in GW, ED 2 will definitely help

You've got a decent shot at Swarthmore ED, and you're probably in everywhere else except Princeton and Brown.

Thanks everyone! By the way fuzzylogic, I am not counting on the pull from my cousin, just appeasing her desire for me to apply...but thanks for the advice anyway!

Your GPA and ranking are pretty good, if you could bring up your SAT scores then I think you definitely have a good shot at those schools. I'm not expert, but I'd say your EC's are up to par for all those schools. Good luck on your SAT!
chance back? Chances at Amherst????
