UPenn, MIT, Columbia, BC, Georgetown, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, USC, UCs

Heyy! I'm trying to figure out what are my chances at these schools. I am frankly scared after seeing the other posts by members and their shocking list of credentials. Pleasee help so i can get a reality check! :]

Colleges:
-UPenn
-MIT
-Columbia
-BC
-Georgetown
-Carnegie Mellon
-NYU
-USC
-UC Berkeley
-UC Los Angeles
-UC San Diego
-UC Santa Barbara
-UC Irvine

Unweighted GPA (4 point scale): 3.944

Weighted GPA (5 point scale): 4.44 (should be higher because my freshmen year is not weighted)

Class rank: 5 out of 535 (unweighted freshmen year killed me)

# of AP courses: 8
-AP European History (grade 10th, score 3)
-AP Calculus (11th, 4)
-AP Chemistry (11th, 4)
-AP Biology (11th, canceled score)
-AP US History (11th, 4)
-AP Government (12th)
-AP Physics (12th)
-AP Statistics (12th)

SAT score: Pretty bad. I'm taking the SATs in November again. I'm shooting for at least 2100.
-640CR
-540W
-660M
1840 T

SAT II scores:
-Chemistry 750
-Math 2 750
-US History 740

ECs: My extracurriculars are very few to nonexistent. I joined a few clubs but never held leadership positions. I joined tennis sophomore year but did not continue the next year. I have less than a hundred hours of volunteer. :[

Clubs:
-Helping Hands Organization (10th, 11th)
-Amnesty International (11th)
-STAND (11th)
-Indian Cultural Club (11th)
-Key Club (12th)
-California State Federation (9th)

Sports:
-Tennis Junior Varsity (10th)

-Premier Academy (summer before 12th)

Summer Programs:
-Columbia University High School Program (summer before 11th)

Honors/Awards:
-National History Day, District Level (10th, 11th)?

Recs/Essays: I should have pretty solid recommendation letters. I am still working on my essay but you should know writing is not my niche.

Personal:
-Location: Southern California
-Ethnicity: Asian Indian
-High School Type: Public
-Gender: Male
-Applying for Financial Aid: Yes

Any input would be helpful. Thanks guys!

I really think your SAT scores and lack of EC's are going to hold you back from MIT, Penn, and otehr top ones but idk how the UC's are. Try taking the ACT and see if you like that style better.

dude, honestly, don't look for a 2100! I'm sure in a month you can bring up your score a lot more!! And if you do, you'll be seeing a lot more "match" instead of "reach" on that list

Buy Baron's SATII Writing book for the writing section and memorize it! = instant 800

my turn =P => => His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a

Actually, a 300 pt. jump is huge- especially from 1800-2100. It is VERY difficult to raise it that much in a month

I took a course with the Princeton Review ($1000) and it brought my scores up about 300 points. It's damn expensive, but with proper input and motivation, it's a good investment.

Yes it is easily possible to gain 300 pts, if your talking about going from 1500 to 1800 or 1600 to 1900.

However, from 1800+, raising 100+ pts starts getting difficult, as I mentioned.

-UPenn - High Reach
-MIT - High Reach
-Columbia - High Reach
-BC - Reach
-Georgetown - Reach
-Carnegie Mellon - Reach
-NYU - Reach
-USC - Reach
-UC Berkeley - Reach
-UC Los Angeles - Reach
-UC San Diego - Low Reach
-UC Santa Barbara - Match
-UC Irvine - Match

Now, if you can get your SAT to 2000, go up half level on each school. The SAT writing section is the easiest one for you to raise at least 100 points. It is highl formulaic and you just need to learn the formula, and have ready about 10 literary examples, of which one is likely to be perfect for whatever prompt you get. Guaranteed 700.

I don't know how the UCs work, but if the assessment are right, you need a safety.
