chances for NYU Sterm

Hi,

Im a sophomore halfway through the year and I'm wondering if my chances of getting into Stern are done..

i go to Stanton College Prep thats the 5th school on the newsweek list and I'm in the IB Program

Freshman Year I had an unweighted GPA of 3.53, with 2 Ap Courses and most honors other then 1/8 of the classes. On the 2 Aps Ap World and AP Human Geography I got 5s.

But this year this 1st semester I'm looking at a around a 3.3 unweighted GPA with 1 AP class and all other honors.

Im taking 2 languages in the IB program Spanish and Chinese and i already speak Hungarian fluently, so I'm wondering if that will help me.

I will be on Varsity Track all 4 years and Varsity Xc for 3 years.

So, are my dreams crushed because after this semester right now I'm pretty depressed..

Thanks.

They should not be crushed just yet. Colleges will know that your high school is one of the top ones in the nation and that should help significantly with your low gpa. For instance, at my high school, which is ranked 134th in the nation, the average UW GPA for Ivies such as UPenn, Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, and Columbia, is a 3.6-3.7. Colleges know how tough schools are.

Get a 1500 on your sats or at least a 33 on the act and you will still have a shot.

How are you with your class rank? Even if you have a low GPA, it might be high compared to the other people at your school. So, if you're in the top 10% onwards, colleges will probably know that your school has a very tough course load.

My class is.. also not to good, but I have a harder program (IB) compared to my peers. Furthermure I take a dual language which is also harder. I also plan to raise my GPA to above 3.6 by the end of Junior year. It probably will not be top 10 but hopefully 25?
