Does anyone else think it would be a good idea to do something like the NTRP, which is a system that tennis players use to rate themselves by comparing themselves to some standardized definitions (National Tennis Rating System (NTRP)).

For example, some factors could be % of students that get 4.0 unweighted, % of students that get into top 50 colleges, average SAT scores, # of hours of hw, etc.

It wouldn't be perfect, but this system would be infinitely preferable to the uncertainty we have now.

You can find the average SAT and GPA of your school by using :: College Planning Made Easy | Inside Source for College Admissions Requirements. Just compare your score to those at your school and the average GPA. There doesn't need to be a system. That sounds sort of ridiculous. Certain schools have certain reputations. Colleges know how good your school is and you shouldn't worry about it. Just do your best where you are. No point obsessing over every aspect of the college process.

And where do you see the average scores and gpa for your school?

For private schools Prepreview.com and boardingschoolreview.com. Probably would have to be compiled for publics. These have average SATs and use admissions to ivies plus (plus being Stanford and MIT).

The problem here is that if you go to one of those thirty schools, you already KNOW you are competitive. But what about the lower ranges? For 30-100 schools, I would argue that ivy admission isn't very accurate. Instead, one would have to look at SAT scores and maybe admissions results for a wider range of colleges (here might be troublesome as schools in CA for example will have a lot of students going to UCs as in-staters)

I'm pretty sure most, if not all, public schools have a "profile" that is sent to colleges with a student's application. My public high school's profile is available on its website. This will give you average SAT/ACTs, popular colleges that students go to, what constitutes an A, B, and so on, APs offered, as well as other information.
