Chance me! I just got back from a college visiting vacation! Will chance back!

Hey guys, I just came back from California/Washington this week, and I looked at some new schools that I visited. I created a thread before, but I had no idea about any schools on the west at all.

So here are my stats:
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Asian
School: Top Boarding Prep schools in Penn. (CT Resident)
Class: Junior

I am a Junior at a tough boarding prep school. I want to know if I have a good chance of getting into some schools I'm looking at.

My resume is as follows:
3.86 GPA at winter term end
1950 SAT on first try -Thinking of taking it two more times in May and October (will try for 2200+)
2 Sections (CR+Math- 1350ish).,Trying for 1450+
Taking 1 AP right now(haven't taken exams for it yet).
SAT II scores, 790, and hoping for 700+ on CHEM SATII.
Class Rank: Top 10-15%

Current Classes:
Chemistry Honors
Alg. II Honors
English Electives
AP Environmental Science
History Electives

Next Year courses (already confirmed):
AP Economics
AP Statistics
AP Chemistry
English Electives
Precalculus Honors

Extracurriculars:
Varsity Ice Hockey-4 years(will be)- 2 hours a day on the ice, M-F. No Competition in Pennsylvania- forcing long road trips on the weekend to New England, Canada and Northern New York, frequently misses school due to hockey trips. 20 weeks a year, 50+ hours a week.

International Club- 3 years(executive member)
Resident Assistant in the Dorms
Orientation Committee
80+ hours of community service

Bilingual- Speak Japanese and English fluently. However cannot write Japanese lol. Japanese Citizenship with Green Card.

Will try to Double Major in Japanese and Business (Reason I am taking AP ECON and AP STAT)

With my hopeful "2200+" how do my chances look at these schools?

From highest interest to lowest:
U of Washington
UCLA
NYU
USC
UC Berkeley
BU
Tufts
Carnegie Mellon

Pepperdine...(safety safety safety)

I'm gonna put one in for Brown just for the hell of it haha.

While I was at UCLA I heard an interesting fact. While most people say that it is harder to get into UCLA from OOS, my tour guides told me that wasn't the case. True, 92% of students are from California, but that's because 92% of the applicants are from California. Only 8% are from OOS, but that's because only 8% of the applicants are OOS. Which lead him to say, Out of the 92% of the In State Applications from Californians, only 20% were accepted out of the whole 92%. Out of the 8% of the OOS applications, 22% were accepted out of the 8%.

Well anyways, that's all. I promise I'll chance back.
Thanks!

U of Washington - safety
UCLA - slim (because you are not from California (sorry I still suspect that there is a bias in selection =[ it would still be hard for you if you were form California anyways)
NYU - match
USC - low reach
UC Berkeley - high reach
BU - safety/match
Tufts - low reach
Carnegie Mellon - low reach

Good luck raising for SATs! It'll help. Work on ECs too!

I think you're pretty much good except for the California schools...but I have a friend with stats like yours who got into UC Berkely.

Dude pepperdine = awesome!!! A friend of mine spent two summers at Carnegie Mellon...she absolutely loves it there. All smart as hell and nerdy though, if you're looking for hot girls you won't find them there.

And please, for cripes sake chilll :P you're a junior! you have a lot of time left and a lot in your life can change...be open to it. also...try not to get attached to any school so early...ill be damn sad if i dont get into my dream school of 7 months, you'll be damn devastated if you dont get into dream school of 2 years

Could you please chance back? <33 Chance a deferred kid! I'll try to chance back!!

It is true that UCLA has a higher acceptance rate for OOS students. They are especially looking for OOS students now because they really need the money. The big problem is, like most state schools that don't factor in that your prep school is most likely much more rigorous that the average CA high school.

So figure out your UC GPA and hopefully it will be at least 4.0, and raise the SAT to 2100 for a good shot. Keep in mind though that it's a school under a budget crisis and $46K per year might be better spent at a school not making so many cuts right now.

Dude if you raise the SAT scores up to 2200, and get 4's or 5's on the AP Eco and Stat., that should increase the chances considerably.
The class rank+being Asian +non California resident will definitely hurt your chances for the UC's but NYU BU and U of Wash. changes are good!
Also try to get some more ECA's instead of just Ice Hockey, though continue it and try to win some medals...

Chance me back, please!

Chance me, pleasse... (I'll chance back)

I agree with most people here, except.

While you're probably in at UW, you must realize that 85% of their accepted class is in-state. This means that it probably isn't a safety for you.
