Well I have to disagree, although I appreciate your insight ca87. My counselor says he will put on my application next year that my Rank is UW, and that otherwise my rank would be top 10% if they weighted it, so that should not be a problem. There is a really unfair system at our school, and even our counselor thinks so. I agree my GPA is low, but I challenge myself, and it will be up to a 3.5/3.6 by the end of Junior year. Thank you

You've got an excellent shot at all of the schools except for Brown really. I think you can get in to BC if you can explain the GPA, and normally NYU would be somewhat of a reach too, but I think the legacy helps. Good luck!

Stern might be a bit of a reach, as well as BC, and Amherst is pretty crazy--but otherwise your ECs are good enough to most likely get you into most of those schools. |

Maybe I should not ED1 to NYU Stern, and try for CAS instead. How is NYU's economics program? It is probably good since their business programs are too obviously. I should probably change that to NYU CAS ED1 then most likely.
What about Middlebury ED? I am a reject for that too?

I think you'd be a reasonable bet for NYU if you are full pay. The rank is an issue and it would be helpful to look at scattergrams if your school has them.
What you need to do is research if NYU practices admit/deny--that they will admit a student despite financial need and just not give him the aid most of the time, or whether they reject most who they can't fund.
While I know NYU does admit many they don't fund, you may run the risk of getting rejected if you ask for lots of aid you don't really need.
Amherst is a huge reach.

Wonderful insight hmom5, thanks a lot. Hmmm I know from my brother that NYU gives terrible aid, so maybe if I don't want to stress out my parents with loans and such, I should just apply to Middlebury ED1? Maybe I should apply no financial aid to Stern. Would that increase my chances substancially?
Reality is tough to handle lol.
Yeah, I should probably cross Amherst off

I think you have a much better chance at Stern than Middlebury. Schools like Midd that have such a low percentage of kids not in the top 10% are going to be tough. At least NYU can bury the stat among their many!

I think you've got a good shot at most of the schools, you have really good ECs. Brown, Amherst are large reaches though, BC slightly less so, but still a reach.
I don't know much about NYU so I can't really speak about applying with or without financial aid though, sorry. I would think you might get in though.
And as other people have said, be sure to explain off your GPA.

You're GPA is a little low, and I'm confused on your writing score for the ACT. Isn't it out of 36? And you got 10??
Other than your GPA, you have great chances. Just do well on your essays! They can really make or break you.

I agree with a lot of the posters about the GPA/class rank even if it is being explained. I think Brown and Amherst are reaches, but a lot of those other schools look like they'd be good matches, especially with your EC's. Make sure the essays and recs are excellent.

I agree with others that your GPA is a tiny bit low, but I think your scores and EC's make up for it, for the most part.
Brown, BC, and Vassar are more reachy than the others. You look really good for GW, Villanova, and Colgate. I think you have shots at all of them, though.

Your gpa is okay, and your ACT score is pretty good. I'm not sure if you'll get into your top schools but I'm sure your EC's will help a lot! good luck!

Yeah I guess this is a huge warning sign for me. My GPA at the end of Junior year should be a 3.5 so my rank should go lower. It might reach 3.6 by senior year, then my UW rank will be top 20% in time for Middlebury ED2 after I'm a reject at Stern lol.
