um not to be rude or anything, but isnt it a bit useless to mention 'took AMC 12' without winning anything for it. You need to be aware there are like dozens of AIME qualifiers applying too and its a bit weird stating something those guys r alrdy good at.

IMHO, there is a distinct lack of awards/honor. Cmon "Excellence in Wellness " and took AMC 10 and 12? Participating in clubs are not seen as beneficial.
Average (10-15%) chance for Ivies. Good chance for LAC..... lol

agree w/ indianmonster, just TAKING the AMC/AIMEs arent really accomplishments.
but your ECs overall look good, although nothing really jumps out at me. your GPA and SAT scores are only average, which is part of the reason why I dont think you'll have any shot at princeton. brown/dartmouth are going to be high reaches, and the rest i dont know about personally, but you seem like you have good odds of getting into at least one of them.

Thanks for the advice on the AMCs. THe only reason I was going to add them is because not every student at my HS takes them, you need to do very well in your math class just to participate.
And as for the notorious hook, isn't Eagle Scout a tiny hook (I mean, only 5% of boy scouts gets eagle, and I know a fair amount will probably apply to the schools I am looking at, but still)...Also, the cardiovascular research internship at B&W (which is a teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Med School) isn't a hook at all either? I mean, if I establish a good enough relationship with the mentor, and he writes me a good recommendation, I would think that would help a decent amount.

in terms of Ivy League applicants, my SAT score is average. However I've always considered my GPA to be a little bit above average, so I was suprised by that comment as well. According to Princeton Review the average GPA of Princeton is 3.9, so mine is a little bit above average.

In my opinion I think you could up your volunteer work, but you did do eagle scouts, which colleges seem to love.
Dartmouth, Brown, Princeton, Williams- Very tough just get more community involvment and volunteer work and you could have good chance.
I would also suggest to try and work REALLY hard on your essay because the colleges that do interview use this as a key thing in identifying the applicants personality.
Chance me? Notre Dame, Possibility? |

Your SATs are very impressive. You've got a TON of ECs.
I think you have a great chance (but again, Ivies are pretty unpredictable) Just try convince them with your essays!
