Am I setting myself up for failure?

As of last night, I am officially a B+ student. My school deals in overall grades (averages of all the grades) rather than rank. So overall:
Freshman year: A-
Sophomore year: A-
Junior year: B+
Senior first semester: probably A-

I've always wanted to go to Brown, and am looking at the top schools in the nation. Am I setting myself up for failure?

School: Riverdale Country School, Bronx, NY
SAT: 2170 (taking them again in the fall)..expecting 2250
Junior Year courses:
- French 5 Honors (AP) : Last year of the class, and I am one of 2 students taking it. highest lever of French offered
- Precalc AB Honors
- Constructing America: Mix of AP US History and AP English - only for our school, its a special course
- Independent Study for painting and drawing anatomy
- AP Biology
Junion Year Grades:
- French: A
- Constructing: B+
- AP Bio: A
- Pre-calc: B
- Independent Study: A
Summer Activities: this summer...
- working at the UN writing papers/editing/translating into french for an organization: Global Action on Aging
- Working with a doctor with Stem Cells
- Art class at Colombia University
Interests:
- Art: painting/drawing/sculpture/digital/photograhpy: i have done almost every type of art making there is, but i specialize in drawing and painting. I have been doing so basically since i was born (no joke!) and have been commissioned several times to make paintings for people
- Piano: been playing the piano since i was 4. Followed the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum, which was just introduced in NYC this year, so im one of the few kids in the city doing it. I am in grade 9, which means i will be able to teach next year! I've gotten tons of awards/certificates from playing in concerts.
- Medicine: I have been volunteering for 4 hours every Sunday at 2 prominent hospitals in NYC for 2 years now
- Tutoring: have been tutoring a 10th grader at my school in math
- Sports: JV Tennis, V Cross Country, V Track
- co-editor in chief of our school's art magazine
SAT 2:
- French language: 760
- French Lit: 780
- going to take Bio, Math 2
AP: I just took the French language and literature (last year!) and Biology

Random: I have lived in Canada for 10 years, London for 3 years, Japan for 2 years and New York City for 2 years. I have great recs, one from my french teacher who told me she "got someone into Yale"...and I love English and writing and it is my favorite subject, so essays shouldn't be a problem.

Chance me for Brown, Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin, UPenn (legacy), Hamilton, Haverford?
Or others, if you think of any that would fit with me

THANKS SO MUCH

You need some safeties and matches, but I'd say you're in at at least two or three of those. Good luck

Thanks

Sorry to push, but which of those would you assume that I would be accepted to?

Also, my college advisor wants me to compile my college list by the end of this week, and honestly, I have no where to begin. I thought I could get into some of the Ivies, but I'm not so sure now. Any ideas for schools?

You will get much better advice from your counselor at Riverdale than you can possibly get here. There are all sorts of thing you are facing applying from an elite NYC private--lots of legacies, lots of qualified URMs, the very connected and very wealthy. Then multiply this by all the top NYC preps where everyone wants an ivy or top LAC.

Who gets into the ivies from schools like yours is anything but straight forward, but where you stand among your classmates and how many Brown legacies are in your class will be critical. And even though your school does not rank they know exactly where you rank.

Right now, you are looking like an excellent ED candidate to Penn. The legacy boost pretty much requires you apply ED, and again, given the legacy competition from NY applying ED would matter a lot in your case.

Talk to your counselor and see where the new SAT scores come in. Unhooked from a NY prep you will need that 2250 plus.
