I realize time is running low, but I'm in the middle of my applications and would appreciate a good 'ol chancing.

Wharton, UPenn: CAS, UChicago, Princeton, Cornell, Yale, Columbia...(excuse me if it I'm just throwing around names, because I kind of am)

Math II 710 (retook them...hopefully will improve score)

GPA...roughly 97-98 unweighted (school doesn't give 4.0 scale)
4 out of about 400

US Hist: 5
Bio: 5
Micro and Macro: 5 (though not offered at my school)
Currently in AP English, Calculus AB, Physics, European History

EC's

Boy Scout related:
Eagle Scout
Staffed Great Medicine and other leadership programs
OA Elangomat Chairman for a year
Camp counselor/Nature Staff at scout camp for nine weeks every summer since end of 8th grade
Participate in pancake breakfasts, eagle scout projects, and other service programs as part of scouting

Outward Bound: awarded scholarship for two week program in Oregon two summers ago
German Club: 4 years, VP
FBLA: 11th/12th grades, 1st in State/9th in Nation for Economics
Speech and Debate: 4 years extemporaneous speaking, finalist in several regional tournaments
Marching Band: 5 years
Scholastic team: participant at state competition as a sophomore (reached semi-finals), semi-finalist in local NEIU competition, hopefully president
Tennis: 3 years
Lector at local Parish 3+ years
Cross Country: just sophomore year

Also, could anyone suggest OTHER schools in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic for directions as diverse as business, economics, foreign affairs or architecture.

I wouldn't keep Princeton AND Yale... face it, those are THE 2 best schools in the country; other suggestions:

Wash U in St. Louis
Duke
UNC-Chapel Hill
UMich-Ann Arbor (Safety)
Boston College (Safety)
University of Virginia
NYU-Stern (Safety)

All of these are fantastic schools for economics and within your reach, def

Helpful and honest, though I would like any input over which I would have a better shot at: Wharton or CAS at Penn?

I have to confess though that I am a terrible chancer and wouldn't be much help, but I'll check out your post if it's here.

I disagree with you on a few things.

Wharton is just as selective, if not more so than Yale and Princeton. It is more difficult to get into than Penn CAS. "Reasonable reach" and "big reach" seem kind of silly; it would be more appropriate to able schools under both categories as reaches (though Penn CAS probably fits more under the heading of low reach, for what it's worth). Cornell is more like a high match, IMO, as is UChicago.

OP: you appear to have several strong ECs. Some other schools I would consider are Georgetown SFS and NYU Stern. Also, though you are qualified, if you are simply applying to these schools there is a possibility you will not be going to college period the year after graduation (albeit a rather slim possibility). You need safety schools; frankly I'm not too sure which ones would be best for you but you can do the research .

No you should still apply for Wharton as well as Yale and Princeton to increase your odds of getting into at least one.

If you're interested in business, Dartmouth also has pretty good recruiting.

And yes, Wharton is generally more difficult to get into than CAS.

Your logic is utterly flawed.

OP, I'd say your best shot is probably at Cornell, and maybe at UChi if your essays are good enough; Penn's CAS isn't unreasonable either. As for Yale, Princeton, and Wharton... they're certainly reaches, though you've got a shot - your app just isn't nearly remarkable enough to say that you have a GREAT shot at those schools.

EDIT: Disclosing your state of residence, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status could change things...

Dartmouth and Brown are strong in the areas you are looking to go into. Dartmouth especially for business (its top 5 or so in the country I've heard).

I'm not sure where you learned stats, but my logic is perfectly correct. If the OP wants to get into any of the three schools, then he stands the best chance of getting into at least one if he applies to all of them.

Nobody has a great shot at these schools but there is no downside to applying

you have great stats, apply where you want. You cant get into Wharton, Princeton or Yale if you dont apply, so I say give it a shot, you have nothing to lose (except 70$), but i think it is worth it.

Wharton is definitely going to be tougher than CAS. I'm not that great at chancing but I dont think any of those schools are too ridiculous to not even apply to. Good luck
