Why did I get my decision today?

I thought that decisions for RD weren't out until March 15th. anyway, today I was pleasantly surprised to see i was admitted with a 15k scholarship. I was hoping to get a little more but perhaps they will negotiate once I hear back from other schools. congratulations to anyone else who was admitted today.

DoinSchool - congratulations on your acceptance and merit award to WU.

S1 received his acceptance letter & merit award back in January, 4 weeks or so (?) after he applied. It's our understanding that Willamette operates on a rolling notification basis, hence possibly why you appear to be surprised at the earlier than expected arrival of the letter. Either way, it's all good.

From my understanding, they don't give more than 15k.

^ Financial aid can be negotiated with Admissions/Financial Aid, but Willamette may not have a good idea of how much money is available until closer to the May 1st deadline.

It is possible to receive more merit money than mentioned above by anotherparent, but perhaps not in the initial offer. My son decided to attend late in April, and he received an additional offer of merit aid from Willamette in that month, before he made his final decision. The accompanying letter explained that a committee had met to allocate additional funds to students with strong academic credentials. Look at it this way -- when a student like anotherparent's daughter declines an offer, she leaves a $17,000 merit offer on the table which Willamette can use to bring in someone else the school really wants to attend. Some students decline in late April, and so top students may receive additional offers in that month. Or, as was the case of a close friend's son, the family can re-negotiate in April for a better package.

@CalAlum - this is why my daughter turned down her offer as soon as she saw that Willamette was not where she was going. I dont think we would have thought of that if I had not read this sort of comment in CC. She also turned down her EA school that offered her a named scholarship, in hopes they could give it to someone on RD.

Good luck all!

My son has been offered $17,000 merit aid. Willamette is a great fit, but he is waiting to see what the other schools offer him before he decides. As the mom, I have to say that Willamette's quick answer makes me like them very much.
