hey guys i am, like some of you, anxiously awaiting my regular decision. forget a career... i could be a professional mailman stalker. jk. anyways, i thought id do this just for fun.. if any of you have comments pleeasse post them - it would be so appreciated

so basically, here are my stats. im a white female from NY who goes to school in CT. my parents are seperated, and my dad went to Williams:

SAT: 2250
ACT: 34
SAT II: Math II 800/Literature 760/Chem 730 :/
APs: Calc AB 4/Chem 4/English Somethingorother 5/Modern Euro 5
GPA: 3.9 UW
This year I'm taking the most rigorous course load with 5 APs and a completely full schedule.
umm my school doesnt do class rank but id say im in the top 10-12%. its a small private school in connecticut. (about 50 kids in my class).
ECs:
-Madrigals/Chorus 3 yrs. last year we auditioned and were accepted into the National Youth Choir - we performed at Carnegie Hall
-Varsity Soccer 2 yrs. Captain and Keeper. named MVP for several games.
-Varsity Tennis for 4 yrs. Captain, Coaches Award, number 2 seed last year, hopefully number 1 this year...
-JV Basketball Freshman-Sophomore Years, Captain, Coaches Award.
-Amnesty International 3 yrs.
-Literary Magazine editor/"chief artist" - 3yrs.
-Big Brother/Big Sister and tutoring - 2yrs.
-1-2 midnight runs a year to benefit the homeless.
-French Club Senior Year.
-Piano - I've played for 15 years now, and play monthly at my church.

Other Stuff: Spent this summer getting my EMT-B certification, have had a few steady jobs for work experience, French National Honor Society/Essay Contests/National Exam High Placements, National Merit Commended, Outstanding Citizenship Award, Excellence in the Sciences Award, Donald G. Schwartz Award (most heavily weighted award given out by my school to a junior)/lots of volunteer work at my church.

I also began a greeting card business in Sophomore Year to benefit a few charities and organizations. I successfully sent a club to Boston for a competition, raised several hundred dollars for my own school, and sent money towards aiding earthquake victims in Asia through Junior Year.

Essay: I really like it. It loosely likens the different parts of my journal to my skin/muscles/blood vessels/heart. I think it's unique and ties together my loves of journaling and biology (I hope to do Pre-Med and minor in a Slavic Studies/Russian program).
Teacher Recs: one I'm sure was stellar, the other at least really good. It's hard to tell - I didn't read them, but both teachers really like me and know
me well.
Counselor Rec: Again, I didn't read it, but I'm sure it was amazing.

I also submitted a comprehensive Art Portfolio for review which included everything from painting and figure drawing to samples of architecture floor plans. I mentor with a close friend who is an architect

ugh sorry...that was so long. one last thing. a boy from my school was admitted early decision, and he was a legacy. on paper, my stats look more impressive than his, but his admittance might change my chances, right?...if I have a chance at all. I was deferred from Yale REA and am sort of regretting not applying to Williams ED...no idea. so thats that.

1) What was your verbal SAT? This is far and away the most important component. Over 700 is desirable.

2) Is your tennis or soccer good enough for Williams? Did you have any interaction with Williams coaches in these sports? If yes, you would certainly be in as a "protect".

3) The fact that a boy from your school got in early has no affect on your chances. The fact that your application may be stronger is also not that important because he applied early. Applying early is a big advantage.

4) If you could find some way to (honestly!) demonstrate to the admissions office that you would come if admitted, that would help. If your dad knows someone in the alumni office, it might be worth a call. The College doesn't want to let you in if you plan on going to some Ivy instead. As far as they know, you just applied to Williams to make Dad happy.

My <i>guess</i> is that you are in. Legacies who are AR 1 or 2 generally get in. More discussion at EphBlog.

okay well lets see. my verbal SAT ended up being a 700 :/
um id say my tennis is definitely worth a shot however I haven't been in touch with the coach. also :/... it's probably too late to contact, right?
um and. I was lucky enough to be able to meet with Mr. Nesbitt over the summer when I visited the campus. I expressed to him that I was seriously considering applying early to Williams, and since then he has been informed of the fact that I was deferred from Yale and that I was riding the fence all September as to whether or not to apply to Williams early instead. He knows that I'm very serious about Williams, and he seemed to really like me. We had a really great chat.
would that make a difference?

Academic Rating is a combination of your standardized test scores (SAT I and II/ACT) and GPA/class rank; class size is also considered, I believe. At Williams, AR 1 and 2 are the highest. I'm not sure where the Admission Office draws the line for each of the categories, though.

Having another kid admitted from the same school should not, IMHO, have any bearing on your chances. I am sure your application will be judged by its face value.

I'm still convinced that, for a great majority of the applicants, admitted students are chosen by Morty grabbing apps out of a money-machine like device.

hm yeah it would be interesting to know exactly where the cutoff for Academic Ranks is made, because I'm sure many applicants don't fall exactly into specific categories. huh.

1) Contacting the tennis coach can only be a good idea.

2) Chatting with Nesbitt is good stuff. You should send him a hand-written note expressing your excitement about Williams and indicating (only if this is true!) that you would enroll if accepted. Williams does not want to admit you if you would rather go to Yale.
