Whoaaa... Guys, there are still lots of acceptance letters to be sent. Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis, and Williams has been trending to a process whereby applicants are notified as soon as decisions are made.

Local students get a huge boost in the process, and I would be somewhat surprised if you didn't get in Kevin

Could you define "local"? Williamstown? Nearby towns? Statewide?

Okay, I'm going to have to ask a question that requires some speculation:

I got a fin-aid letter saying my FA was incomplete. Is FA app and admissions app for Williams hand-in-hand? I'd like to think that I haven't heard anything because they wanted to get everything together for me before they sent a final letter. Just wishful thinking.

MomMary- "Local students" are students from Berkshire county.

JustanotherCCer- Getting a letter from the Williams financial aid office telling you that your application is incomplete is definitely a good thing. They wouldn't bother letting you know if they weren't planning on accepting you.

Curious Kid - Asian is considered URM at Williams. If she is an Asian citizen, then she will not be given preferential status.

thanks MikeyD223. but what exactly do you mean by "preferential status"? can you please clarify?

Also, another one of my frd's from HOng Kong took a year off to re-apply to Williams again this year because he got waitlisted last year. Would the fact that he got waitlisted last year boost his chances this year?
He's doing this cos' he knows that Williams is his absolute top choice, and also that Williams doesn't accept international tranfers.... any idea?

Thanks!

If all else were equal, an applicant with preferential status would be accepted over an applicant with identical qualifications who did not have "preferential status."

If he wasn't accepted last year, and he hasn't done something unique to make his application standout in the interim, it is unlikely that he will be accepted this year. Williams has a waiting-list the size of the Sears tower, so I'm not sure that his "waitlisted" status necessarily meant he was close to being admitted.

Taking a year off and simply hoping that you'll get into your top choice college the second time around is not smart. My advice to CCers is that you avoid this tactic.
