I stayed in LDub for Bulldog Days and while I'll be spending freshman year in Farnam, I enjoyed my stay a lot! If Farnam is better than that, well, damn, I'm excited.

I'm at Yale for a summer program, and I'm staying at TD. It is a little isolated from old campus, but things might be a little different during the school year. Old Campus is about a five minute walk, so I can only imagine it interferes a little. TD is really small, but it seems relatively nice. Nonetheless, if I get accepted to Yale I will hopefully get assigned to one of the larger colleges.

As far as cockroaches, I was appalled to see a HUGE one (of the winged variety) on the steps to a classroom building this morning. I absolutely loathe cockroaches, and I was suprised to see them so far north. But yes, they are here.

Quit worry about the cockroaches. They are the state bird here in Texas (cuz they fly, ya know?). Big one in a drawer today. Cockroaches AND cold weather! That will REALLY build character!

Sillimanders and TDers love their locations. In fact, Silliman is often considered a center of social life for upperclassmen; Sillimanders and TDers definitely get to know more upperclassmen as freshmen.

I love Silliman... TD is nice, too, but a little too small in my opinion.

Anyway, don't worry, and look forward to an awesome year in L-dub.
Actually, LDub went through a major renovation in 1993, which isn't too long ago for a building. Also, consider this--in a non-binding referendum as to whether Pierson freshmen should continue to be housed in LDub (if not, they would likely go to Welsh or Vanderbilt), then-current Pierson freshmen overwhelmingly rejected any plans to move.

I didn't know about the renovations. Having lived there last year I can say they certainly didn't do a very good job.
I'm aware of the Pierson survey, and as a former Saybrook L-dubber I kind of agree. Living in L-dub was a great experience, and had many advantages, even if the facilities weren't up to snuff.

Just bringing this back up because I'm going to be in L-Dub next year. Any additional comments?

All the roach talk is confusing me... i never saw a roach in my freshman year. I also lived in vanderbilt. We did have a mouse though. We named him Klaus. He was kind of cute.

And, not having lived in L-Dub, it seems fine to me. All yale housing is pretty good. Eg, i drew the *worst* room in Berkeley this year, and by all standards it's perfectly fine. Except my double is about the size of a walk-in closet.

I saw a dead roach in the shower last year, and I've heard numerous stories of roach encounters.

We had at least a two mice in our suite last year, if not more than that. There was definitely a mice problem last year in L-Dub. Hopefully they have it taken care of by now.

Check my comment on the other Saybrook thread. I didn't hear anything about mice or roaches-and I lived there last year.

Plus, it's not like there's enough space for any rodents or pests to live.
