What were your scores?

Mine were far from anything spectacular!

30 on ACT; SAT IIs 680, 680, 600...I think. Anyway, I still got into every school I applied to except for Princeton (HYS, Chicago, Northwestern, Cornell, etc, etc)...I'm class of 2010, btw

I got a 600 on every section of the SAT..

But I have an academic athletic, and performing arts background to back it up.

Right now I am looking into Geogetown, Swarthmore, and Barnard..( I like Yale but I feel that's out of my reach.. I was rejected from Columbia so I don't think I can get in anywhere "ranked higher")

Based on the colleges I am looking at now, do you think I would have a chance or where else is good for my score range?

i dunno how much scores really matter, i think its more of as long as ur in a certain range...
i had (have) a 2310 SAT (770CR 780M 760W 11 Essay) and 34 ACT (have no idea what the breakdown was)
oh and i was deferred, so just as a point of reference

Low scores are okay if you're Black, Latino, Native American, are an athletic recruit or legacy, have won some important international or national awards.

^ That never ceases to make me sad. My parents are Middle Eastern immigrants. My mother works as a cashier in a fast food restaurant and my father is an assistant window installer. They've gone through wars and discrimination, etc. etc.

I don't know. I know plenty of very intelligent Latinos, African Americans, and Hispanics that have had more support to pursue higher education than I have. (My parents believe that females shouldn't even attend college.)

^ It makes me sad too..

A lot of people feel the need to post or see examples of low scorers who made it into HYPMS, and that's really understandable. As we can see, these examples do exist. However, I'd also remind you all that while it's possible to get in with a low score, the majority of admits DO possess "monster stats", that although the amount of weight they carry is debatable, they certainly are nice to have. It works both ways.

dan2K915, what's your story? I'm pretty interested, partly because I'm one of those people amb3r's talking about who feel the need to search desperately for some encouragement.

I think you have a good shot due to the factors you mentioned, probably 1st generation attending college in your family, immigrant, eastern european, gender bias within the family...you may wish to wright a second essay to Yale clearly explaining your situtation and your desire to attend Yale (e.g. you love their History dept...be specific) and how this may have affect your scores. Also, and any city, state or national wide honor/recognition you may have received recently. Best of luck to you.
