does anybody know what percentage of deferred EA applicants get accept in RD?

My dad found an article that said last year it was around 10%.... so we have a slightlyslightlyslightly better chance than RD applicants.

yeah i dunno it was a really strong SCEA pool if im not mistaken.. so im hoping that my app, which i think was pretty strong, will stand out RD? lets hope...

Yale '11 here.

You all have to remember that this year the scene of the Yale EASC scene changed a lot due to both Harvard and Princeton no longer offering early action programs. As a result the number of early applicants rose and the percentage of admissions via early dropped slightly.

Just remember that the percentage accepted and attending is usually a statistic that is considered in a university's "ranking", so if they (being Yale) were to accept off deferred do they take the gamble that one would surely attend Yale or that they could have possibly been accepted elsewhere (i.e. Harvard (SUCKS), Princeton or Stanford)?

Also, the RD chance last year was around 6%, a 10% acceptance rate is a huge difference when dealing with such high caliber students. Anyways, best of luck to all and don't stress out about it too much, I'm sure you all will attend amazing colleges.

I was deferred too... I'm so disappointed. I'm gonna send in two new essays, because looking back my essays really weren't that great... unfortunately, Yale won't let me replace the essays I already sent in, just add on to my profile.

BTW, could anybody tell me why I was deferred? I wanna know what I did wrong.

I wouldn't worry too much about what you did wrong because it is not so much you as it is all the other applicants. Because Yale is a top university, it attracts some of the strongest applicants around, you being one of them. However, because all the applicants are so amazing, choosing between the two of them could come down to the smallest, most mundane facts like what state you come from. The deciding factors are often things you cannot change, so you should not worry about if you want to remain somewhere near sane.

Relax. I'm in the same boat as you, but with a different school (take a guess which one), though Yale is very high up on my list as well. Send in another essay explaining how much you really love Yale and hope that your application comes up at the right time, preferably not late at night when the admissions officers are sick of reading about kids with near perfect stats.

I have the exact same SATs as you do (2290) and I won the Bausch & Lomb award, too. I was also deferred from Yale. Wow, lol. GL to the both of us, I guess.

is it true that they go through all the regular apps. and accept students before they start looking at the deferees again? and if so, does that mean, despite any percentages, we'll be competing for whatever spots remain?

ya i'm pretty disappointed by the deferral since all my parents' friends' kids got into yale ea. my guidance counselor told me not to give up hope tho. o well...heh theres always the other colleges. i wonder if getting into harvard or princeton this yr will be easier than yale

To all of you who think you have a shot in hell of getting into Yale, think again. Remember that it is one of the top schools in the world and you are competing with more highly evolved people than yourselves. Good luck. You'll need it. I had a 4.0 uw and 2370 on the SAT, got deferred, fabulous ecs and recs and got denied.

Yea, I was deferred too. Stanford was killer this year though since the split was like 20% accepted 60% deferred and 20% rejected for Yale, but then with Stanford, the reject and defer pile were swapped...

SAT's were 2260 - 710 CR, 800M, 750 Writing. It was decent, I didn't care so much since I'm lazy and I think they'd rather see me do something for the community than an extra couple of points I could've gotten. 4.0, 5 AP's so far plus 4 more this year, with straight 5's down the row.

Math Team Captain, Varsity Swimming, Drum Major, Student Government Rep, All State Trombonist, bunch of musical groups, and holds the school record for the most pieces of popcorn caught in a row (217).

I mean with a talent like that last one, I'm surprised I was deferred.
Plus, I have a fabulous personality (modest too) and am part of the Green Lantern Corp. I have a friggen ring and super powers. What more could they want right?

But seriously, a LOT of strong candidates this year

and...a LOT of candidates in general.
