hahaha Mochamaven's post just made my day! After this, I'm going back to study calc again with renewed vigor!
I just randomly came across this thread, and I thought it would be interesting to see what Yalies say--because I've heard from a Princeton friend/alumni that people at Yale are more arrogant and preppy than the people at Princeton. (I had thought the opposite before he told me.)
But now looking at this thread, I think I have to re-evaluate my opinion. The reason why I like Yale more than Princeton is because I never got the aloof, preppy-school feel that I got from Princeton. Hmm..what do you guys think?

I don't straighten my hair, have a fake tan, or wear make up regularly... but I'm still hygenic O.o, fit, and happy

Funny, it seems that all ivy schools think the other ivies are arrogant/preppy.
I hear all the time that Harvard students are snobbish, but I don't think that's true.

And no, Yale has been known to be one of the most down-to-earth ivy.

BrianJones: maybe if subtlety were my goal...but I think my Eli friend's absurd comments called for a response in kind :-)

um... what if the hair is already straight? must we straighten anyway to be "stylish" at Yale?

I frikin hope not. that just defeats the whole purpose of Yale. "must wear A&F" or "must straighten hair" or "must go to the most fashionable coffee house" is what petty people worry about. going to Yale means you're kinda hoping people actually have the brains there not to stress over those things.

Sure you can't look like you just got scrambled by a clothes dryer, but you don't fuss otherwise.

BTW, I love you, Gnarly Yale Girl Who Doesn't Straighten Her Hair.

I thought that was the point of interviews in college apps... you look good on paper, now let's see if you are a jerk in real life.

No clue how they let Dan slip through the cracks...

Why does looking good have to fit into that mold, Dan?

I don't think that everyone needs to wear A&F, etc. to look good. I come from a place where people can't afford those clothes (or A&F doesn't want them to wear them, if you know what I mean) and they still look good with tight jeans, sweaters, Tim boots, etc.

You should get out more.

And for this very reason, if i do get into yale, i will never ever never never ever straighten my hair. EVER. And, like totally, NAWT retouch my nailpolish. I will walk around with chipped nailpolish... and then dan can hate me for all i care!

I'm surprised anyone has time to do all this preening, but I mean I have no problem with looking nice.

Some faded jeans, a navy blazer, and some wingtips to school everyday? hmmm too much

Dan, Abercrombie is not really fashionable unless you're in 8th grade. If you have the money for A&F, buy something classy like Brooks Bros. or Ralph Lauren or at least something a little less generic than A&F. Or better, stop criticizing your peers and donate your spare cash to charity.
