Anyone get an acceptance call?

The other day I was sitting in my room when my mom told me that a guy from Yale was on the phone. He was an admissions officer. He told me that I'd been accepted (I didn't apply EA) and that I'd be receiving a likely letter, but come March I would definitely be receiving an acceptance letter.

I haven't heard yet of this happening to anyone else. Has it? I am really excited but feel a bit awkward because I don't know why I got called.

If you're interested, here are my stats:
V: 800
M: 760
W: 720
Math: 700
US History: 760
Bio M: 740
Chem: 740
APs: Euro (5), Bio (5), Chem (5), US History (5), English Lang (5), Calculus (5)
Currently taking: Calc BC, Physics C, Macroeconomics, Government, French language, English Literature
2nd in a class of 125
I don't feel like fully listing ECs, recs, awards but I have volunteered at a diabetes camp, worked in a research lab, won some stuff, played violin for 8 years, president of sci club and done some other school stuff, ran XC, track, and swam

Ooh great your stats are like mine and you got a likely! Do you go to a school that sends people to ivies? Anyone gone to Yale recently?

Our school sends kids to good schools, but we don't send to Ivies every year. A few years ago our 3rd highest honors went to Princeton, last year our 2nd went to Stanford and our first went to UNC Chapel Hill. We've had some go to Harvard, Northwestern, and UCLA - it's pretty varied. A lot of kids go to state schools as well, since it's not that expensive for us. I live in SC, by the way. No one I know has gone to Yale recently.

whats the actual function of the likely letter/call? Is it just to ease the stress of waiting prospectives? How many likely letters are usually mailed...anyone know? Just wondering...

I think likely letters are just so that really high-caliber students that schools really want don't commit to another school while they're waiting to hear back. I've gotten them from Rice, UNC Chapel Hill, Yale - they all want you to make sure that their school is at the top of your list of considered schools.

Depending on the college, different numbers of these letters are sent out. The one from Yale was hand-signed (you could even see the indentations on the other side of the page), leading me to believe that there weren't many sent. That letter said that I had a 99% chance or something of getting in. The other ones I received were more vague, but basically saying the same thing: "You're accepted but we can't really tell you that yet... keep us in mind come May 1!"

Okay, I realize that sounded completely conceited. I'm really sorry. I was just repeating what my guidance counselor and my other college friends have told me. I wasn't trying to congratulate myself or anything. I'm just excited.

Don't worry...I don't think that sounded conceited--ou have the right to be completely excited!! I think the hardest thing is trying to contain your own excitment because you're worried about those around you...even though I'm sure everyone here appreciates your consideration.

good luck making your decision, it seems that you have some great options to choose from.
