Yeah I think you have a good shot at Yale EA. Most people get deferred though.

Wow. You have great stats. The fact that you're Hispanic ensures that you will get in.

Don't say that joelyam2, that's not true; you'll just get his hopes up. OP, you do have great stats, being a minority helps, and applying early helps a bit, too--just make sure your essays are awesome and cross your fingers! You have a good shot =)

Good luck!

is this a joke? seriously, no one rlly knows what ur app will be like. all we know is stats + minority status + some EC's. those are just a FEW of the many variables that can work for or against you. Chances threads like these r horrible b/c all u r doing is searching for reassurance. If u rlly scored that on your SAT and did those activities you KNOW you have a great chance, even w/o minority status. I am not totally against chances threads where ppl r sincerely asking if they need to retake their tests, or what activities to highlight on their app. Chancing for advice is different from fishing for compliments!

haha well said vicky_sky. But seriously? I wasn't trying to fish for compliments. Applying to college is a stressful time for everyone. People with perfect SAT scores and every EC under the sun are consistently getting rejected. All I wanted was someone to tell me if my application would be yet another run of the mill app that Yale sees. No need to get so angry.

uh vicky sky you clearly don't understand college admissions.

Officers drool over applicants like grc, who based on the notion of stereotype have overcome poverty and racism to do well. A 1590 is rare. A Hispanic student with a 1590 is 1/1000000.

Almost a definite. Just apply to Harvard and Princeton and other ivys as well, in case a pact by satan doesn't let you into yale. You WILL get accepted into a lot, and definitely at least one.

Right about AOs and high scoring, high gpa Hispanics. However, the "overcome poverty" is conjecture, the OP is a URM, but that does not say anything about his SES.

The only negatives I see are taking Spanish as your FL IF you are a native speaker and possible weakness in the sciences IF your school offers AP Chem & Physics. Even so, you're in very good shape and should get into several top schools.

my school does offer Ap Physics and Chem. Is taking AP Bio bad? Is it known as an easy science? And also Spanish is not my native language. Does this negate my minority status?

Nope, not at all. AA is not socioeconomic based, and adcom's do not care what background you come from, as long as you're able to say that both your parents are Hispanic, that's all they care about.

You are, more or less, an adcom's perfect applicant.

Messed up, isn't it?

Taking AP Bio is not bad, it's on par with the other AP sciences. As a matter of fact, at our HS it's 3 credits compared to 2 credits for AP Physics and AP Chem. What I was trying to say is that you might be a little weak in the sciences since you will have only taken one AP when 3 are offered.

Not being a native speaker in no way affects your URM status. There are many reasons why you might not speak Spanish at home. I was more concerned that you might be a native speaker that took Spanish as your FL, which really isn't kosher in my book. You might want to mention why you learned Spanish in school the "additional information" section of your application.

I don't agree with you here, while SES is not taken into consideration, AOs DO care about whether or not you associate with your Hispanic heritage.

There's an AA thread on the College Admissions forum for comments like this.

I didn't suggest that the OP was poor. I just suggested that a lot of affirmative action candidates receive benefit on the notion of racially assumed stereotypes (yes it is ridiculous!). The OP is clearly an amazing applicant, but college admissions officers will use his race as a major factor in justifying his admission.

Well then again I am responsible for having oppressed minorities and enforcing slavery. So I guess it is my fault and thus I should allow someone less qualified than me who has a URM status be accepted in my place.
