I'm pre-emptively telling you all that I know this question may be really idiotic, so don't bash me too hard! I'm homeschooled and don't have a real guidance counselor, and I've received a lot of conflicting advice on this on.

So, I have a sort of unique situation with my transcripts. Prior to this summer, I had taken 46 college credits and received As in every class. This summer, I studied abroad and received an A-. I'm in a sort of unique situation in that I can choose whether or not to have this grade sent to colleges. If I choose not to have it sent, my 4.0 will remain and I can write about it anyways on my "master transcript", describing my trip. If I choose to send it, that will be an extra 4 college credits listed, but it will cause my GPA to drop (sort of significantly, I suppose, because 8 of my 46 previous college credits were in nongraded courses?)

So, basically, my (ridiculous) question is, would it make a difference to submit it or not? Either way, Yale will hear about the class because I am writing about my experience there, the only issue is whether or not to forsake the credit (which almost certainly won't be transferrable anyways) and not list it on my transcript to maintain the 4.0, or whether I should just send the freakin' A- and stop being so anal-retentive and perfectionistic about my grades.

Okay remember I am completely clueless about the college admissions process and any advice anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. Even better, if some wonderful person wanted me to email or IM connect with them my long "master transcript" detailing everything I've been doing and give me advice on my chances or next course of action, that would be terrific. Thank you!

Well see, it was a course that we could choose whether or not to receive college credit for it, so I can forsake the credit and still write about the trip experience and what I did but not have it listed as a graded course.

Hahaha.....just go ahead and send it. You won't get rejected for an A-. You GPA will still be incredibly close to a 4.0.....much higher than mine will ever be. <sniff!>

Send it as an exercise toward freeing yourself from an excessive concern about your GPA. Your new GPA will be approximately 3.97.

No, I'm not complaining at all, and I didn't want to come off that way, either. I just have noooo idea what sort of standards Yale has or how they will look at my transcript. Yeah, embarrassing, I know. :-[

The thing is, the visual impact of having those extra courses will outweigh the perfect 4.0. The fact that it's an extra four college credits is worth it because it shows your motivation. A lot of times, a slight dent like this can make you seem more human, so it's not really a bad thing.
