My major hook, especially for Yale, is that this summer I am doing a research with a research group (a whole bunch of grad students and post docs)... at Yale. And this isn't one of those program things where you apply and students get in or they contact your school and it's like a camp type thing; I made a connection with a student at Yale who was able to find a professor of his that needed lab assistants and who met with me and decided he would be willing to take me on. The research is pretty serious; I doubt any publishing will be involved during the window of time that I'll be working with the group, but it will definitely happen eventually. Additionally, the professor who heads the group really likes me and has already told me that she would be happy to write me a letter of recommendation and even maybe speak to the school on my behalf

commonapp essays already written... main one uses piano playing anecdote as a lead in for me to talk about my true love and passion for learning, while the extracurricular one talks about when a woman died in a fire on a 911 call I responded to. not sure what I'm doing for the yale supplement one

other recommendations from AP bio and AP calc teacher that both LOVE me and are known for writting incredible letters. guidance counselor knows me extremely well and loves me.

You might get in. 'Bout as helpful as anyone can be when chancing for Yale. You have all the credentials and good EC's, so you might get in.

I think your chances are pretty great. Test scores are there. ECSs show commitment. Rec letters and research experience will be impressive. SCEA is a great boost also. I think your chances are above average and that you should be fine.
The only thing I would say is that you'll have to make sure your essays are the best they can be and maybe catch some more community service hours.

That's pretty good. Your ECs are a bit weak though, you don't have a ton of leadership and most of them are pretty stock ECs, but the EMS stuff is good. With the Yale professor recommendation, you should be a pretty good applicant for Yale. HYPS are more of a reach. Also just so you know it's not really an advantage for you that the research you're doing isn't through a program, because the big-name science research programs are all actually really prestigious if you're able to get into them (by big-name i mean the ones listed here: Summer Programs | MIT Admissions). Whereas, if you do research regularly at a university with a professor, that's still great but it's more based on who you know.

What state are you from? I assume CT if you're researching at Yale? Are you going to enter any research competitions with your research from this summer?
