Hahaha that's actually hilarious... maybe he/she just meant be casual? Mine didn't state any preferences.

Can anyone give me tips on how to make an uncomfortable/awkwardish interviewer comfortable? I'm easy to talk to (peer counselor) but I don't want to appear threatening/overwhelming... Any advice?

Fringey, first of all your posts really make you sound like someone fun to be around, and who can carry a conversation just fine! If you're truly worried about your interview skills, you can always ask a friend (an adult might be best) to do a mock interview with you. Don't rehearse answers, just get into the rhythm of the format.

Bumping for J mom.
For anyone who's reading, post your alumni interview questions on this thread so there is a single, comprehensive source on this topic.

Thanks so much riverrunner... I'm heading off to my interview soon and have decided to heed my interviewer's request to bring "just myself" :-)

My interviewer explained his role in the admissions process. He explained how the interviewer is simply an alumni that loves their school and wants to stay active with it. He then explained to me what happens after this interview: he'll write a report and send it off to Yale. Then I just have to wait until mid-December and hopefully not have a panic attack until then.
The following are questions that are non-specific to the answers that I provided, as obviously they wouldn't apply to everyone.
1.) What are you looking for out of a college experience?
2.) What does your ideal college look like?
3.) What do you want out of college?
4.) How did you come to choose Yale?
5.) Why did you decide upon applying early?
6.) Tell me about your school.
7.) Tell me about yourself and your family.

He didn't really ask me a ton of questions.
He went to the same high school as me, so that was cool

I haven't gotten contacted by Yale, saying that my school isn't "linked," but I haven't gotten contacted by any Yale alums either. Should I call Yale to ask about this? I'm a little worried that I've totally been overlooked...

I would most definitely call seeing as the deadline for the interviewers' reports are due this Saturday, the first of December.

aeolia--From what I've read on previous year's posts, if you're not linked, that means that you won't be offered an alumni interview. It's still worth calling, but I think it means you live in one of the states or cities where interviewers are only linked to certain schools, not generally available. I think this is a rotten way to run alumni interviews, but that's decision your local volunteer coordinator (not Yale administration) has chosen to do it. Not being linked could also mean that you're in an area with a low concentration of alumni and there just aren't any volunteers in the area.

Just wanted to add that plenty of people get into Yale without alumni interviews and that especially if you're not linked, whatever that means in your context, they will ABSOLUTELY NOT hold it against you.
