It has been announced that Yale will be building two more residential colleges by 2015 so that will increase admission approximately 18%. That (and the decrease in applicant population) will mean that the acceptance rate should rise from 5 to 7%. On the other hand, Yale's very liberal financial aid policy and more super-qualified applications from abroad will work to counteract this anticipated trend.

I'd say talk to the Yale coach but don't count on that too much. My sister was recruited by Yale for tennis so I know a little about how strong the program is. Unless you regularly attend nationals I wouldn't expect to be recruited. I didn't see your national or sectional ranking in your resume, What's your national ranking? That said, definitely talk to the Coach no matter what, it never hurts.

Also, YaleAlum, is the news about Yale building the new RC's recent? Because last I heard the two new RC's were being put on hold due to the financial situation.

It is recent. 2015 is a revised schedule.

Something that is particularly odd is that, when you look at people's chance me post on this forum as well as the results page people who get admitted typically look outstanding. Yet being at Yale, everyone here seems well just average. I don't think I have really encountered that many really smart people here (save for a few). But my perspective my be skewed as a fellow Yalie.

(Wow, I haven't posted on here in FOREVER! Feels interesting.)

I must disagree with Dbate on this one. We'll probably have this conversation over dinner sometime (/we already did?). [It feels weird "knowing" someone on CC. Anyways, I digress.] While I understand why you think that people at Yale seem more average than their stats make them seem like, I don't think it's because they're merely average. It's like you said, everyone here has a personality, which most people don't encounter. I completely agree that there are some people at Yale that you look at and you ask yourself, "How the hell did they get in?" But, 1) you begin to not do that after awhile after you realize that everyone here is just AMAZING! 2) People here aren't ostentatious at all about their intelligence and sometimes you end up being surprised by the things the most "average"-looking people have done.

Hey, hey!! I was just thinking of writing a post about my first few weeks (months? :-/) at Yale. I'm supposed to be working right now (lol), but I'll do it tomorrow (hopefully!). Be on the lookout for it!

to danjinc, yeah tennis is freaking ridiculous at Yale. Do you know their national ranking? My national ranking is around 600 but i don't get to play many USTA tournaments. I do play #3 singles for my 5A school in texas though and we were state finalists this year. Do you think I have any chance at all, even to walk-on?
