The yield rate was "significantly stronger" than expected, even though the Admissions Office accepted about 150 fewer students through its early action program, Brenzel said. Yale also expected a lower yield because some students ineligible for Yale's need-based financial aid may have instead opted to attend universities offering merit scholarships.

In turn, Brenzel said the University has no immediate plans to admit students from the wait list.

"We will not make any wait list offers until or unless we see sufficient attrition to our matriculant numbers as our peer schools go to their wait lists," Brenzel said in an e-mail message. "We will monitor this situation for the rest of this month and the month of June, and we hope to give final answers to all of the 468 students on the wait list by the end of June."
Yale Daily News - Yield rate beats expectations

It goes on to say that Harvard and Princeton will both dig into their waitlists, so this might still cause Yale to take a second look at its own waitlist.

Even if students are taken in off the waitlist though, its very probably going to be in the single digits.

468 students on the waitlist!!! AHH this is so low last year they ended up taking 80 from the waitlist so if they did take from the waitlist, we would have high chances! Damn, i guess its gonna be 0 taken from the waitlist this year... and if we get really lucky, maximum of 10 cause they already have around 20 more and not many students decide to pick another school over Yale (such as Harvard and Princeton) when they get admitted off their waitlist .. basically, we will be getting our rejection letters next month

We should start a campaign to encourage kids to take a gap year. Kids who take a gap year win because gap years are awesome and we have a slightly better chance of getting in off the waitlist.

haah cmc4me.. I like that idea! Statistics totally show if you take a
Gap year you'll be happier, wealthier, and marry someone who is 10 times more attractive then if you don't.. Serious, just trust me Yale admits, don't verify those stats, that kind of thing is for lame people who don't take gap years...

I got an email saying the waitlist decisions would be delayed because the freshmen class was slightly over-subscribed right now. I don't really want to wait anymore because I'm set on Pomona so I am taking my name off the wait list. Good luck guys!

hey guys, I'm not a yale waitlistee (rejected, but i still love it ), but I am a princeton waitlistee. We're in almost the same situation... they only took 31/over 800 people who accepted the waitlist, and they aren't planning to take anymore. I don't know why I'm here, but I'm basically saying hi from the Princeton board, and that most of us know how you feel. Last year they (Princeton) took 148 off, but for some reason, the yield went up by 5%.

Anyways, heres to hoping that HARVARD takes lots of Princeton/Yale acceptees off their waitlist, so that P and Y have room for us

Wait-List Down to 50!

So, I got an e-mail from Yale saying that they took their waitlist down to 50 students and that I am one of them! Anyone else included in this?

^^ Me TOO! Bad news though. I emailed them back and they responded:
Back in early May, we may have been oversubscribed by about 17. (I’m not sure of the exact number.) We are less oversubscribed now. I would anticipate that we would only go to the waitlist should we become undersubscribed. As I mentioned, I don’t expect that we will take many students, if any.

So we just have to hope more than 17 students opt to not attend Yale. I don't know how great the chances are. Anyone who has more updates...post please.
