Have any of you on the extended list heard anything else? Does anyone know by how much they are still oversubscribed?

Hi guys,

I heard from a friend who recently had a conversation with the Dean of Admissions that for a variety of reasons they are no longer oversubscribed and actually now have a few (very few) spaces. So keep your fingers crossed!

Of course, this is third-hand info and my friend could have been BSing, but she's pretty reliable.

Why don't you call yourself? (Although it might be a little late for this business day.) I would call if I were interested, but I'm not. I believe my friend and I have no stake in the matter.

The Yale Undergrad Admissions website gives the number as 203-432-9300, in the US, of course. via yale.edu /admit/index.html

Bouda, do you know how recently your friend's conversation occurred?

Tuesday, I think. I'm not sure. It was definitely in the early half of this week.

A few days ago an email went out to the class of 2013 offering the gap year option with a new deadline of August 1 (it was May 1), so maybe a few students who hadn't chosen that option by May 1st but have since wished for it will take the plunge opening up more spaces.

I got an email today, saying that they will not be taking anyone off the waitlist this year and are still over-subscribed. So that's the end of the line, I'm guessing?

Serendipity, did you also receive the email a week or two ago that said 50 students were being waitlisted?

Nope, but regardless, those 50 students would only get a spot if there is an extreme case of summer melt for Yale, which is unlikely.

Did anyone else receive this email (telling us that the class is full)?

Serendipity, do you mind posting a transcript of that email (instead of just paraphrasing it)?

And, bouda, thanks for the info. I hope your friend is right.

I'd like to know whether the email contained an absolute statement that Yale would not be taking anyone off the waitlist this year, or did it reiterate that it is unlikely anyone will be taken off (leaving a tiny glimmer of hope for those who did not receive the most recent email).
