I didn't do that, as many applicants don't offer an accurate assessment of their schools' rigor.

I would say, though, that an applicant with eight B's would have to go to a very well-respected school in order to get accepted SCEA as an ORM.

Can you help me understand things a little better please? Coz I'm an aussie, and here your placement in university depends on your final score from Year 12... (It's so nice to think "I'll definitely get into Law")

What sort of things does it usually take for someone with such strong stats like these last few posters to be accepted rather than deferred?
Do you just need to be different or somehow stand out?
And if so, what sorts of things will help you to do that?

I'm looking at acui's stats and I'm just blown over. I'm an IB student and I don't know of ANYONE who has achieved that much academically. I didn't even know IB would let you take 6 HL classes. On top of that, there are college classes and AP classes!!! And you're saying there's nothing that stands out?!

I've been really naive going into this process and this website has made me panic. I'm not seeking comforting words, I'm just confused.

It is really mysterious, haha. Usually, as silverturtle said at the beginning of the forum,
EA acceptees have incredible scores (i.e., 2300/35) and excellent applications all around. Also, please keep in mind that silverturtle is not an admissions expert but a high school student also, so s/he can't predict everyone's acceptance with deadly accuracy.

Acui's stats are great. It's just hard to know.

Not everyone who is accepted can be different, but you should be a standout in some way. CC is skewed towards higher-stats students, so please don't think that this forum is a good representation of the entire Yale applicant pool. If it's any comfort, a boy from my school got accepted to Y last year with no national awards, no hook, and without an incredibly difficult courseload. He DID have strong scores (35 on ACT), good grades (4.0), and great essays.

And if so, what sorts of things will help you to do that?

If you have a passion, makes sure it shows through your activity list and essays.
