It takes me about 4-5 hours to burn through a prep book and 2-3 prep books to 800 or 5 any test. So the way I phrase SAT IIs and APs is "Can I manage to save 15 hours to study?"
I actually have plenty of free time to do well in six academic competitions and still be free Friday and most weekends (not in April or May) to hang out with friends. I'm not crazy, I'm just efficient. And I really do enjoy the thrill of pushing myself.

^Hehe, yeah, this is insane. Too many incredibly high-stats applicants. >_< I'm intimidated!
Regions do matter. It's considerably more competitive in certain areas than in others. I'm in a fairly non-competitive area: my school is not very competitive (50% don't even continue on to college--very working-class small town) in a semi-rural part of WI. So, I don't know. But yeah, I wouldn't want to be from an overrepresented pool in an overrepresented area (Asian from Bay Area = difficult).

| Staff Directory | Contact Us | Office of Undergraduate Admissions <---look at that site, and scroll through different states, some states have SO many applicants that they have admissions officers zoned for different regions of the state
worst states to be in(in terms of overrep)= california, connecticut, massachusetts, new jersey, new york

Yeah, same with all the other plushy boarding schools. It's just crazy. How many applicants can each school even have?

I'm a California Asian kid, but I hope they have mercy on me because I go to a regular public school (you know, not magnet or charter or anything like that).
And I'm not a troll. After all, most trolls don't slowly disclose their stats over a 10 month period and post over 200 times about legitimate issues.
I really am afraid though that I'll be rejected. I feel like HYPS like to reject kids like me to spread horror stories. I'm worried I'll be punished for my scores because they will (wrongly) assume that I either have no life, am a college whore, or both. I've had to dedicate a lot of essay space to insisting that it really is just for my own satisfaction and that I have a normal social life (at least by AP kids standards).
Also, I think this pool is really high quality because most of the country's best kids who are gunning hard are applying to Yale, Stanford, or MIT and CalTech.

^You are very impressive, my friend. I don't think HYPS will reject you just to scare other people. Again, I'm in awe of everyone's accomplishments. And glad I'm not from Cali.
