Math help?

What can I do to improve my Math scores? I scored a 27 on the Math section of the ACT (30 composite) and 540 on the SAT's section(1870 composite). I'm not completely terrible at math but a lot of the questions just stump me, and it's really bringing my scores down. Is there anything else I can do to improve other than just practice practice practice? How do you guys study for it?
