Act Writing?

So the other day, I was wondering something about the ACT Writing portion. What I was thinking is that if you get a good score on the writing portion, is it possible to take just the ACT without writing and keep your old writing score? Or does the writing have to be from the same ACT?

Many schools refuse to split up the sections of the ACT like you can do with the SAT (like with the SAT you can take the highest math score, etc., from different test dates). The schools that I looked at did not allow you to split the essay. So your best best is to take the ACT with writing, and if you did well on the first writing, then you can probably get a similar essay score.
