Is the diversity open house only given to less privelaged minority students? Also, is the acceptance rate to the college if accepted to the program dramatically increased? Did anyone attend it last year?

The Diversity weekend is open to a wide array of students - many who are not minorities or who are not underpriviledged. My daughter attended last year . While she is African American, she comes from a professional family and was admitted ED without financial aid. If you are accepted to the Diversity weekend, it enhances your chances of acceptance significantly. I believe the students who were accepted were told that 75% of them would be accepted for admissions. My daughter attended the weekend, fell in love with Amherst, applied ED and was accepted. If you can attend the Diversity Weekend, that would be a huge plus to your application. But, those invited for the weekend are "targeted" for a variety of reasons (although you can write them and ask for an application - anyone can apply - but you have to be accepted, which is a feat in itself).

lmpw you're so right. I received a letter saying that also. I'm planning on going this fall. I'm a little baffled by the cost though

When you say "exceptional", I assume most students who apply are exceptional. She had a traditional profile - great grades, interesting and varied experiences in her life, strong test scores and a passion for Amherst. I'm a college educator and I would always hessitate to predict what the outcome will be in applications of students to colleges - many, many outstanding students don't get into competitive colleges. So, it really depends on what a college is looking for in any given year.

So Authentic, there is no cost to attend the Diversity Open House. Amherst pays for the entire weekend. Or, do you mean the cost of Amherst?

are you an international student or do you live in the US? You do represent a specific type of diversity. Just check with the admissions office and request an application. There are usually two weekends - one in September and one in October. I suspect that the deadline for applications may have expired or very close.

mojojojo69, if you're already accepted to Amherst (which I SERIOUSLY DOUBT), you wouldn't be inquiring as to the dates of the Diversity Open Houses. If you're at Amherst, this information is easily accessible from the college calendar.

when did those of you who recevived your applications for this receive them, as i just got mine yesterday (the 15th) and it says that the priority deadline is the tuesday, August 15th (even though the 15th was a wednesday)? it does, however, say that they prefer applications to be in by the 31st. also, would it be wise to include a high school resume on a separate piece of paper with the application, even though it doesn't say that it is required?

I just applied to it...they said theyd fill up spots as they came but would accept apps to that date. I just included my transcript and senior year schedule.

wait wait, lmpw I read the paper and it never said anything about them accepting only 75% of those who go to DIversity open house for undergraduate college. They said that 75% of those who attend Diversity open house will choose to apply to Amherst and everyones application fee will be waved to promote their applications.
