What does it take to get into Amherst?

I've just started to get interested in Amhesrt
(as an international student, I'm not too aware of American colleges)
I just want to know reputation-wise
(among the students, not the "official-be-well-rounded" stuff they give you on college sites) what getting into Amherst takes...
Thanks!

Getting into Amherst requires some kind of contribution to the diversity of the community...Amherst is especially interested in having a diverse student body and so having some unique trait, whether it be specialy ability in athletics, music, or simply having a unique background, will really help you get into Amherst. Also, Amherst is really into athletic recruiting, so a little dip in academics can be made up for...
Besides that, the usual stuff, good grades, SAT's etc...
