I am not sure if Ucs care about self studying, but they will know if you tell them in the "additional" information section on the application.

My guess is that colleges won't care.

Many colleges say that they consider AP results only for class placement, not for admission. Also, anybody can claim he or she is self-studying several AP courses; there is no way for the college to confirm that, and a student can just change his or her mind and not take the AP exam.

My son is considering self-studying a subject that interests him, that was my college major and that his high school doesn't offer. I will be happy to help him if he chooses to follow through with it, but I will be just as happy is he decides that his 5 current AP courses, college applications and time-consuming ECs are enough.

They most definitely do care. I am planning on self studying the following courses this year (my senior year). I notified the University of Alabama about this, and they already accepted me! Self studying shows independence and drive, in addition to setting you apart from the unwashed masses. Also, for the most benefit, consider sending a transcript outlining your work.

UCs are looking at numbers, not at "dedication." Do well in the stuff you are taking.

Colleges mostly "care" in the sense that if you do well enough on your AP exams, you can place out of certain classes.

Not every lighthearted post signals a ****, chill out. :p I mean really, was copy pasting the list of every AP test not obvious enough?

Anyway no colleges won't know so they won't care. If you tell them they will know and probably not care since there's no proof or any indication you're doing what you say you are.
