some people in my school told me that on the AP score report, a 5* (with the asterisk) signifies a perfect exam score. is this true? i can't seem to find any solid info backing up this assertion.

    is this true?
    Nope. it's a myth.

The CB will inform your HS of the achievement, but that's about it.

Also, a perfect score is something of a unicorn anyway. 0.01% get it on any given exam, on average.
