    Barron's is terrible.
    Smartypant's guide is decent and very concise, though I wouldn't recommend it.
    REA is amazing--it has everything you would want and need to know. I read it a week before the test and I did fine.

    REA + Smarty for self studiers/prep books.
    Smarty only if you took it with a class or have a solid AP Bio background.

    ...too much unrequired material or too complex or ?

    Wow, I just realized how late my response is. Sorry!
    Yes, there was way too much superfluous information. Honestly, you won't need a really deep understanding of the concepts, so why bother with the hard/unorganized/long study guide by Barron's?
