U of A Student thinking of transferring

I am a freshman at U of A and I just started less than a month ago. I am a pre vet major and I live in a small dorm of about 50 girls. Over the small time that I have been here I have been really unhappy with the social scene as well missing home terribly. My mom suggested transferring. I didn't want to consider it at first but as time passed it has become more appealing to me. Some may say that I am in an adjustment period and suffering from homesickness which is only partially true. This is my first time ever being in Tucson and I can already sense the city and the school don't mesh with me all that well. My classes are pretty easy and suited to my major, but are not challenging and I know that wherever I am I can make the most of my education. I have joined a few clubs, but other than that have not made many friends here, while back home I have some really close friends. My best friend on the other hand, goes to ASU polytechnic campus for pre vet, which is only 30 min away from my home, and is having a blast. On top of that I have a family member struggling with illness and my focus is at home, so I go home every weekend which paying for gas is not financially reasonable. So I'm debating whether transferring is a good idea and not just a rash decision. I am wondering if my financial aid will transfer and my scholarship, U of A gave me an $8000 scholarship but I don't know if ASU would even offer me one. I know transferring wouldn't be cheap considering I'm giving up my meal plan and dorm deposit but I would be living at home and commuting to the polytech campus. I've been told to try to branch out make friends, which has never been a problem for me until now, but my classes are too large and I have not found anyone I've clicked with. I know that ASU polytechnic has much smaller classes, which I prefer, although U of A's are better for my major. But I know that if I am unhappy, no matter how good the class is for me, I will not enjoy it nor will i do my best. So if anyone has been in a similar situation or just made the transfer from U of A to ASU, I would love some insight and ideas.

My daughter didn't transfer between the Arizona schools but she did transfer from a big state U about 2 hours from home to a smaller state U about 20 minutes from home. She had a tough time meeting people and was just generally homesick. She did all the paper work without me knowing and if she had asked me, I would've advised sticking it out for the year and really trying to join organizations, etc. However, she transferred at the semester and it turned out to be a terrific move for her. She already had many friends here, joined organizations, found a part time job, etc. and her life has been extremely happy since.

You do need to consider the potential loss of scholarship money and compare the costs. Also know that it takes a lot longer than one month to get acclimated to a new environment, especially when you're driving home every weekend.

But, in the grand scheme of life (assuming costs are equivalent), it probably won't matter at all if you graduate from U of A or ASU.
